Deflooding question
May be a dumb question, but this used to work on dirtbikes that ive owned...
My 88 vert is super flooded. Pulled plugs and eng inj fuse and cranked. Put plugs back in and still no start. I didnt put oil in the lower spark plug holes cuz i didnt have any handy, and also idk how much to use.
Anywho, thats besides the point.
My question is-- will the car start if push started?
I have compression from the sound of things. Im obviously getting fuel, and all plugs show good spark.
The plan is to get new plugs and wires, but nobody in town carries the wires, so theyre on order.
Just wondering if i can push start it to get it home?

After pulling the EFI fuse and turning over a few times, replace EFI fuse and wait about 20 minutes, then try starting while pumping the gas pedal.

pull starting the car will just about start any rotary engine, even if the engine is blown.
strap your fc to the back of another vehicle. let them pull you at about 15-20mph and leave it in 2nd gear. as soon as it comes to life, keep rpm up around 3k and drive it off after you un hook it.

Yep, I had my plugs wired backwards and my primary injector clips busted... I pull started it and it fired up.,. Albeit badly, but it ran. In fact I have on several occasions parked on a hill so that I could pull start it knowing that it would be flooded.

I bought the car from a local car lot that couldnt get it to start after it was traded in. They swear it ran when they got it...
Either way, im going to get it running if it drove on the lot.
Bought new plugs. Just need to get it home so im not wrenching on it in the parking lot of the dealer...

If you experience flooding for any reason a good way to get up and going right away is by pulling the fuel/spark fuse that are inside the engine bay. You'll be able to see those large fuses about 6 inches above your battery. I remove those two crank the engine over a few times then plug them back in and VROOOOM starting happens. I got tired and embarrassed of doing this and decided to install a fuel cut off switch, since I have been shutting off the engine with this switch and then following it by turning off the ignition I have had no flooding to speak of.

It was fairly easy (other than shimmying under the dash to clip, strip, and clamp) and has worked wonders. All the luck with your FC man rotary engines rule!

New plugs. Pulled fuses snd cranked. Installed plugs. Put fuse back and still nothing.

do a quick and easy compression test. Not nearly as accurate but a piston tester will tell you if the engine is completely fubar'd.
Pull plugs and clean them up(i use a little carb cleaner and a wire brush).
Remove egi fuse(s) and cas connector to be extra safe.
Spin engine over with the starter a few 7 second intervals(a couple time). Have someone with a rag at the spark plug wells to catch the fuel that'll be kicked out.
Add a cap of oil to each rotor and reinstall plugs.
Use the starter and give if a couple bumps to let oil coat rotor housing
Reinstall egi fuse(s) and reconnect cas sensor
Hook jumper cables up to another running car and attempt to bust off the seven with the starter.

pull started it behind my truck when my buddy showed up. it started for a little bit and shot black smoke like a ****.
then died again. noticed oil spots, so im pretty sure its really not worth messing with for me at the moment.
so i will be putting it up for sale trying to get out of it what i bought her for.
good thing this isnt my only rotary, but i really wanted to drive this car...

I had a terrible flooded car and lost hope but forum member AGreen gave me advice that really worked well. Inject light oil into the manifold. It worked well.

But, it sounds like there may be other problems that are causing it to not start & then flood. Hope you got a really good deal on a car that the dealer (and you) can't start. Tell us more about the car (miles, body / top condition, etc.). Maybe someone will take it off your hands. For example, I'm planning a turbo conversion for my vert. But if yours has lower miles & is in better overall condition (except the engine probs), I might be interested.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. If it starts, it will smoke like crazy until the excess oil burns. And you may need to bump the throttle to keep it from dying. Once you know it runs, you can look into why it flooded. Best guess...dealer started it to move it & shut it down without letting it warm up. Good luck if you're still trying.

I got a blown (rear rotor totally ruined, front rotor had low-ish compression) S4 n/a to start by injecting oil straight into the throttle body. It started up with the starter alone, no pull/push start required.

thats the same principal of Oil/ATF in the spark plug holes.
usually works more for low compression than flooded motors

And thats exactly what they did-- they drove it around the block to take it on trade and parked it and it hasnt run since...

BTW, those unflooding links say to use automatic transmission fluid. Some on this forum have reported warnings that ATF will eat your seals. Don't know if that's true, but regular motor oil worked for me. At least you are putting in something that is supposed to be there anyway.

ATF has detergents that help break up carbon deposits. and will help "unstick" the seals. they won't eat them up persay. its fine cause its gonna get burned or shoved outta the exhaust ports anyways.
