decent drifter???
I hear a lot from people that the FC3S just isnt a good drifter as compared to the silvias..some say the 86 is even better..is their any reasoning behind these statements?

decent road racer
well now that i got the drift answer...hows this car when it comes to handeling adverse weather add road conditions found in road course/races

personal experience over script. i own both fc and s13. i learned to drift on fc. spun a million times for every one good drift. usually people spin from too much throttle application but i would go in dead stick(no throttle) and still spin. motor popped at auto x so i got an s13 to get around. easiest thing in the world to drift. i was going full counter an way higher speeds than i ever got with fc but i think it was because of how much i learned about dynamics and how cars react under certain conditions with the fc. so my story.... the fc is like a pro mountain bike and s13 is like a trycicle. learn on the pro bike and the trycicle just becomes stupid fun but the fc is way more satisfying to drift because of that reason.

When the engineers at mazda were designing the suspension and footwork of the FC, i don't think they had drift in mind... Lets face it, it's easier to use our cars as grip cars than set it up for drift, simply cause they were built that way

The FC has a very advanced (strut) suspension system for a mid 80's to early 90's automobile.
It is a very competent suspension until it gets out of shape.
Once the car starts to slide, it is very hard to recover.
Blame this partially on low polar moment - when the car spins, it spins very quick.
The relatively short wheelbase doesn't help either.
The stock DTSS also causes fluctuating toe changes when the rear starts to slide, which makes for a very unpredictable chassis.

Why dont we all watch initial d and see how good the fc drifts in there... and base it on real life...

is a good example of this with a guy and his miata... anyway yeah... initial d huh? That was a great video snowball... another nice looking mr2 driven by a crazy kid that has no experience... *sigh*, nice imports... an indangered species.. If you know you're car and how it works, thats a whole different story, if your suspension is setup right then drifting would be great in the fc just like stevensimon said.

hmmm i dont know about all this...
My first car was an rx7, although she didnt run. After her, i purchased a s14 240sx. I really learned to drive, and drift in that car. Now, im back to an Rx. And frankly, theres no going back. I dont really have a problem getting sideways in my car, w/ stock engine and stock suspension. because these cars have such great handling characteristics, you really have to commit to drifting if you want it to slide. I enter a corner a little hot, and depending on the situation, like if its decreasing raidius, i use braking oversteer to loose the ***, that way i can scrub speed, and maintain drift at the same time. But for the most part, in end up useing weight transfer, Its cleaner, and faster. DONT USE THE EBRAKE. You dont need to, its slow, and frankly more dangerous than weight trans i believe. Just start driving your car, ALOT. Once you learn your car, and learn how do drive fast, then worry about drifting. Its not easy, but its way more rewarding.
I love to drift this car, because it grips so well, you have to go ****** fast to drift. Its fun to give my friends a hard time when i can drift faster than they can grip through the canyon.

Its not a matter of harder, its just different...
The fc is a compltly different platform. My s14, would understeer like a ****, w/ factory suspension. But the FC, with my front sway disconected, it oversteers very nicly. As for the speeds, i dont have a working speedo on my car, and where i drift, there really arent alot of high speed sweepers, its alot more chicanes, and S's, and hairpins. But i do manage to pull a couple 3rd gear drifts there. If you dont belive me thats cool, just trying to help you guysout, **** haha.

One thing i do notice...the countersteering on the fc...
In the s14, when i would loose traction, and the rear started to come around. You could simply let go of the wheel and it would rotate on its own, then it was a mater of catching it.
In the rex, i have to phyiscally bring to where i want it...maybe its because i dont have P/s on this car, but i did on the s14.
Something to think about...
