o o o, I know this one...I had the same problem about two weeks ago. Here's what fixed the problem I had...maybe different for you, but who knows maybe you'll be lucky.
Pull your guage surround off. Pull out your headlight switch. Open it up and you'll find that one of the paths on the printed board has fried itself. Solder in a little bridge and you'll be golden.

If the dashlights go out, so do the taillights. Do as blk87Turbo2 suggested, or get a new/rebuilt switch from www.mazdamark.com

And yes I was pretty excited to finally be able to contribute something, LOL.

if you move around the dash surround does it flash on and off? That's the problem I had. It was just a loose connector in the back. So took it apart, pushed everything together firmly and now it's all good.

ok i went to the locan junkyard today and i took 2 different light switches, and none of them worked! could it be a different issue than the whole switch thingy? or could it just be a coincidence that those 2 light switches were bad?

I'd say 70% of the headlight switches I get as cores for my couple of dealers that part and run junkyards, are damaged or don't work right.
I do have rebuilt switches available on my website

Plug any one of your three switches in, Turn the switch to the first on position (parking light position).
Does the red/Green wire have at least 6 volts on it??? turn the dimmer **** on the switch to make sure.
If it does not, but the Red/black does, then you have a bad switch.
If the red/black and Red/green do not have at least 6 volts on them, then check the white/green. It should have at least 12 volts on it. If it does not, then you have a bad fuse or unplugged harness.
If all have voltage as described and the dimmer control does not work. the the harness is partially unplugged in the drivers kick panel.
But I personally think you have a bad switch.
And finally if you want to send me all 3 bad switches and $20 to cover costs, I'll send you a rebuilt headlight switch. PM me for details.
