dash lights out, searched...

So here's the problem... really stupid of me really but what's done is done. I need to fix it now.

I had my car running last night with the lights on and I was removing my oil pressure gauge from the dash. I had the light for it hooked up to the lighter wires. What I did is I cut the wires for the light with the light on. As Soon as I cut them, all my dash lights and my logicon lighting went out. I thought I blew a fuse but I checked the room, illum, cigar, main, meter, and radio fuses. All good. My cig. lighter still works.

What could have happened?

Thanks.

does the parking lights (external) still work???

If so; then you may have burnt up your light switch (as covered in the FAQ for FC sticky at the top of this, the 2nd gen technical section).

If not, then you have blown the fuse and need to replace it.

All exterior lights still work, which fuse is for the dash? I checked some already as stated above, could I have burnt out the bulbs maybe?

The parking lights use the same fuse as the dash lights...

You didn't read my reply..

So I'll say it again if the parking lights work but dash lights don't, then you probably have a bad or burnt light switch... Again this is covered in the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this section.

I am assuming you have checked the dimmer **** is not in the off position, before even posting.

Ok thanks for the help Mark. I checked every fuse and they're all good, I took the cluster surround off and checked the back of the headlight switch and I don't see anything burnt or fried. I'm going to check the bulbs next.

Next time save yourself some time and just check the fuse relevant to the problem...

All you have to do is check for power leaving the switch. If you have 12V at the white/green wire from the fuse to the switch but you don't have 12V (with the lights turned on) at the red/green wire that goes from the switch to the dash lights then it's the switch that needs repair.
