If you actually watch that FD making the top speed run, you'll notice that the front right of the car starts to come down. Seems like it had too much front downforce. My take on that video is that the suspension was almost fully compressed and that extra bit of speed was the straw that broke the camel's back. The car probably hit the bump stops causing an instability and once it was sideways, it was all over.

For road racing and such, weight is never a good thing. If it was you'd see F1 cars riding around with olympic weight sets strapped out back. Where they get the extra "weight" is through the areodynamics causing downforce. Some much in fact, that at speeds, if the road were to become inverted the car would be able to keep driving upside down.

As for supra's, I see butt loads of video showing these super high hp cars on the dyno. But at the track they seem to only hit low 12's to mid 11's (at unreal trap speeds mind you). Even the supra that the local speed shop built (suppose to run 10's ) only ran a 12.0. All that power doesn't do you any good if you can't get it to the ground. Perhaps you MKIV guys should try more suspension tuning instead of engine tuning.

Wow. I didn't even know about this thread. Haha. That's my house that Bingoboy visited (page 1 of the thread)

I had a Supra TT for awhile. It was a nice car. It turned heads more than any other car I've driven short of a Porsche. I'm not kidding - ever since that movie came out last summer, it's like Supras come stock with a chick.

I quickly discovered, however, that with a few exceptions, I did not enjoy meeting other Supra owners. It's just as well I was fixing the car to sell because I didn't fit in. Supra owners are like the Corvette owners of the import scene. They have a lot of money, so they went for the biggest gun (horsepower) on the block. It's important to remember that about a lot of Supra TT owners - they are really into horsepower. If they were interested in any of our FD-defending arguments (i.e. it handles better/it's lighter/its sleeker) then they would have bought an FD. They can obviously afford to if they wanted to - they just don't give a ****. So it's kind of a waste of time to argue, really. Its not like Supras suck.

The other thing I noticed is that a lot of Supra owners don't do their own mechanical and tuning work. This is actually fairly typical of guys who have a lot of money. (I wish I had that much money!) Since I don't have a huge pile of cash, I felt a bit left out when I met these Supra guys. From my own experience, the MKIV Supra is an electronically complex car. Even with the FD's sequential system, I think the Supra is more complicated. Toyota was amazingly heavy handed with the electronics, especially on the automatic models. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to do their own work, but at the same time, I just didn't want to sit around talking about money/upgrades/t04r.com/$700 for a TRD steering wheel etc. By comparison, all my FC buds do their own work, etc. It's a different scene. More laid back. More grassroots.

So I kept my RX-7. Yeah, I have RETED's 20b in my garage - it's still his. I'm not working on my car until I settle some debts. I think it's unethical to blow money on something low priority like a second car when I'm still in debt, so work on my FC will just have to wait. I figure I should be over my debt soon, though, and then the fun will begin again. =)
