Arrow Cutting off driveshaft sheild..?

Ok my driveshaft sheild is pretty bent up...can I just cut the sheild off with no ill effects?

Or the housing around the outside of the shaft it's self?

the housing that goes around the tranny...it's a metal sheild.

we have driveshaft shields? lol.. you must mean heat shields? I ditched them long ago, no adverse side affects, though the rear of the car behind the dirverseat gets a tad warm sometimes
