Custom sub-woofer enclosures. HELP?..
Yes I've already searched the forum but found nothing. I'm loooking for someone or a link to somewhere that "must" make custom subwoofer enclosures to replace the storage compartments in my 87 SE. Any help would be appreciated. I've been searching on the NET For over an hour with no luck.
HELP??

Well no matter how long you search you wont find much if anything at all! Trust me you dont really want to put them there unless you have really good subs and a REALLY expensive amp!!!
That location is just horrible. I have a buddie who put some nice subs in the bins and they didnt sound all the great.
So I would say dont put your subs there!!!
Also I have many years experience in the car audio field, just so that you dont think I am just some dumb kid. Infact I install for a living.

What should I do? My son wants subwoofers and will be getting the car in 2 years. I have a really nice Sony system right now on a quad amp but I need more BASS.

Do you have subs right now?
If so move them to the back and fire them up into the hatch window! I only have 1 10" and it has some good fill. I would say get another amp mono amp and get a decent 10" or 12" sub.
You can make something custom if you want or just mount the box in the rear.
If you dont want to spend alot of money I would reccomend going to Best Buy and pick up the Lightning Audio 250.1 and the Rockford Fosgate HE2 10" sub in a sealed box! That should give you a very good amount of fill!

Hey, im kinda handy with fiberglass. I made an enclosure that holds 2 10" subs. It fits under the storage bin frame so the lids hid the enclosure. You just have to remove the plastic pieces and carpet under the lids so it fits. If you interested in seeing pictures e-mail me.

... not with 3watts, or wired in series, or in a prefab box, or if they're pyramid subs.
A car stereo system is 80% install, and 20% components. If you get a quality amp and subwoofer (BTW, a stereo system is MORE than JUST bass) it CAN sound like crap, if you don't do the install correctly. Never use a pre-fabbed box and expect it to sound excellent. Never use a pre-fabbed bandpass box PERIOD. If you don't know much about car audio, go to a local stereo shop, with a good reputation, and talk products with a rep. Give them your budget, and if it's a reputable shop, you'll be steered in the right direction.

While this is all true, you will still want to run the 4 gauge. If not for anything else to give you room to upgrade down the line.
Also it will be kinda hard to find a fused 8 gauge dist block.
Also you go and run your 8 gauge all you want! I would love to actually see and install that had a 800 watt RMS amp running off a 8 gauge power wire.

Most people won't have an 800+Watt stereo in their cars. Moreover, very few people would really need a distrobution block. The only think you would need one for is an EQ. Capacitors are a band-aid, and shouldn't need to be used. You can get 8-gague distro's from stinger.
Just to show a bit of my background. My last system consisted of a Memphis Belle (1100x1 & 75x4) pushing 3 ESX DS-106's (you get a shiny nickel if you've seen these in person) with the signal provided by a Pioneed DEH-P7300. I was running 0/1-gague sourced @ an Optima Yellow-top. I only needed 2-gague, but I didn't want to use welding wire, and none of my local shops carried it. I was estimated @ high 140's (popped the seam of the hatch glass in my Bronco II) but never got it metered (60MPH + Tree)
... think I know enough to install at good-ol' Best Buy?

I never questioned your knowledge! And I dont really think that you should question mine. Also how would he run 2 amps without a dist block?
That is what I would love to know.
As for my system in my inetgra which is my stereo car it is a
Sony mobile es mini disc deck, with sony changer.
Audio control 4.1
autotek 5 channel
memphis comp
memp coax
2 autotek 12's
Lightning audio battery
all streetwires wire and only 4 gauge.
Also I agree 100% that caps suck!

By the way how much did you pick up your memphis bell for? I love there equipment!!!
