Custom exhaust question
My main question is what is the stoc piping diameter, specificlly on the Y pipe? I also want a little imput for a solid NA custom exhaust system?
I want to redo the entire exhaust system starting at the headers and going to a DP/presilencer then to one cat and then the stock Y pipe to a set of N1 mufflers.
Does anyone have an opinion on that......god?.......bad?.....should i have two cats?......
im expecting a 20Hp gain with this installed....and hopefully a little bit more when i get my FIKP.
any wisdom welcome

you're not gona fit a presilencer and a cat between headers and Y-pipe... one or the other.
also the stock y-pipe will probably be holding you back after.

soo.....i should buy another Y-pipe too?
and since i live in MD i should find a DP w/o a presilencer? and lastly will one cat handle 2.5" exhaust going to dual N1 mufflers from a new header??

I'm also in MD, I was planning to biuld an exaust for my NA 90 Vert using the RB headers to the stock cat (I've only got one! Yay!), then RB mufflers, and I've heard there is supposedly six inches between the end of the header and the stock cat of. I was thinking of putting in an electronic cutout from Quick Time (That thing LOOKS like it will witstand the heat of a rotary) (They have a 2.5 incher, but if anyone knows another place to buy such a thing, specially cheeper, tell me!) I was wondering if these things could be confirmed.
Is this whole setup even a good idea on a street car?

i found a cat from jegs.com[http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...91&prmenbr=361], i assume i need the one with the air hose. now my entire setup i want to be headers[dont know which yet any suggestions?]-to-the jegs hi-flow cat-to-two N1 mufflers
*all the piping in between, including the Y will be fabed in the shop.
does this sound all right, first exhaust sytem i've ever "over hauled" i dont know if im missing anything or not

the headers are super easy to install, the only hard part is removing the stock manifold heat shields. soak the bolts for the heat shields with PB blaster overnight, then try it. Otherwise, you might snap off a few bolts. But hey, even if that happens, just get some tin snips and cut the heat shields off (it's not like you'll need them later, right?)

You'd be better off taking out the y-pipe and putting in a single cat-back. Not only will this method be cheaper, but your exhaust will also have better flow. Two inch piping is the most you'll want to use on a stock ported engine

i wanted the dual look....you can put it to me for wanting looks too, but at least i am wanting to replace the entire exhaust system.
mainly i want to know, from a nother MD or emissions state, wheather they think that will pass??

i almost forgot, to clear it up....what type of cat will a fc use[round, oval, oval with air tube]....just to be sure. cuz jegs only has the round one in 2 inch
is it out of the question to have a larger diameter cat than piping??

I believe Jegs sells Catco, right? There is some debate as to their ability to survive the heat of the rotary. My car (87 GXL) has a Bonez Superflo cat (long one. You can get a short universal fit version) and a Racing Beat y-pipe. The mufflers are just Bosal oem-type replacement and a stock exhaust manifold. I don't know what kind of budget you are dealing with, but if you have the money, get the Bonez cat and the RB y-pipe.
I think they are both 2 1/2" ID, but you might want to doublecheck. Do a search on the forum for my thread on my emissions results with the Bonez.

i was trying to find an N1 dual "full exhaust" system and can only find (behind the)cat-back systems.....so i figure i can buy a hi-flo cat and the RB headers and ill be set to find a good price on th N1 kit.
¿anyone know where i can find a complete N1 dual kit or a better price than the 720 bux rx7.com wants for the cat-back version?

RB Header to RB presilencer to Corksport single.
Price as installed about $700 *for everything*
This includes ACV blockoff plates, wiring to rolocate the O2 sensor for the header, and all gaskets.
Weight savings:
20lbs for the CS catback
Header and presilencer 11lbs
Manifold, cat and pax muffler heat shields 6.5lbs
ACV about 2 lbs
Total weight savings - almost 40lbs
Remove the airpump also like I did and dump another 10lbs
Good flow, sounds mean, lightweight, and LOUD AS CRAP!
