Cusco Limited Slip Differential

Hey does anyone have the Cusco Limited Slip differential on their car?
How is the Cusco differential compared to the stock TII/GTU/GXL LSD.
I hear alot about the Cusco LSD but the price of the LSD is very expensive for such a differential.

One of the best LSD's coming out of Japan, period.&nbsp These things rock the POS stock LSD's.

I havent had much experience with it since I never really drove my car hard after installing and then had to sell it. But to me it seemed to get much better traction while accelerating, braking, and turning. Inukai will get you a great deal!! Trust me Great guy to work with.

Agreed.

Cusco is THE best manufacturer (sp?) in japan.

My only question is, are the diffs in the TII GTU and GXL interchangeable? I would imagine that they are, but shelling out the clams and then finding out that it doesn't work would suck.

Hey dont be so harsh on the stock TII diff. I havent been able to find an aftermarket 2way LSD for FCs. They make them for s13 though. It seems that if you rebuilt the stock TII diff and broke it in properly id last a long time. Ill bet 99% of all the RX-7s out there wernt properly broken in. Oh by the way the stock TII LSD 87-88 is a 2way. I saw a drift video were they compared viscous, 1 way, and 2ways. The 2way deffiently seem to be the best if you are good with the throttle. I really thought about the cusco but in the end I found a used 88 diff that IM going to rebuild and instal in my 90TII. Im also looking for the same for my NA. Just my opionion.

true i beleive that the stock lsd rebuilt should be pretty good. Can you put more disk in it so it will lock harder? that would be great for a really aggressive drift

For those with the Cusco, have you ever tried the Torsen-type? What does the difference feel like? Thanks.

Hmm I was wondering about the torsens. Hopefully After I get a cusco in my Tii I can afford a torsen for my na<miata lsd> Im having problems battling the costs for my Tii so it aint gonna happen soon, unless I run across a decient deal.

No, the turbo versus NA's are diffferent.

sorry to bring up an old thread (searched and this is the most appropriate thread i have found) but i am wanting to buy a cusco 1.5 lsd for my S5 and need some opinions.

i will be driving the car on the street, drag racing and circuit racing, no auto-x.

in terms of the cusco lsd, which one, the RS or MZ, would i be better off getting and why?

also, i will be hoping to push around 500rwhp when i'm finished. will the cusco lsd hold up to the demands of that power on drag launches?

thanks.

"rs hands down. costs a little more but lasts a lot longer. every other lsd wants to be a cusco rs lsd."

what pretty much everyone told me when i was in the market for one.

I agree that a freshly rebult S4T2 LSD is an incredible diff. Yes you can rebuild them to offer more locking by choosing thicker plates, even just one plate a little thicker and/or one of the washers will help the diff lock sooner.

dont underestimate the stock mazda clutchpack diffs, once rebuilt properly they come back to life as a well engineered and strong diff. within 40-60k miles they should show signs of wear and be less than optimal. the needed rebuild parts thru mazdacomp are under $300.

Just to clarify, out of the box this diff will adversely affect handling of your car. It is setup for drag racing. You can remove/reverse some clutch plates in it to minimize lockup and prevent udersteer through turns without negatively affecting its lockup ability and strength. A good thread about how it affects handling here:

cusco rs it is then!

very interesting read that one dave. thanks for the link. so i assume the cusco can be tuned to less lock up like the kaaz?

one thing i find strange is that quaife doesnt make diffs for the 7's. they make them for my wife's car (protege5)...

so has anyone killed a cusco diff with too much power or too much drag racing on slicks etc?

Quaife also makes 6-speed conversions for a TII trans.
$10,000 it can be all yours.

i'll pass on the $10k, however the hks 6-speed gear set for the FC looks damn nice! however there is still that $7500 problem

so how would one go about building the cusco for circuit racing? and how different would that be to drag racing?

You need to tailor the LSD lock-up characteristis to your driving style.
We cannot tell you some magically setting that will automatically give you the best performance.
Each driver's driving style will dictate a different LSD setting.
