Cup HOLDERs? in a REX ?
Have anyone found a way to put anytype of cup holder in a second gen rx? I've been doing alot of driving and haven't found a good spot in the car to put a can soda or anything.
If any of you guys have an idea?? let me know. Thanks

On the rare occassions I allow drinks in my car, I usually flip the storage bin open and rig a cupholder in there. It's actually not too inconvenient. I'm sure with a little bit of ingenuity you could rig a permanent cup holder in there that wouldn't be a nuisance.

I've found an answer to this problem
Unless you enjoy the broken vent look, DON'T get the kind that attaches to your vent. Those little plastic slates break pretty easily, especially considering they have been made brittle from years of being beaten on by the sun.
Go to a Pep Boys, etc type store. There is a section for aftermarket cup holders. There is one type that works quite well. Don't have a picture, but here is a description.
It is a two cup bucket type holder with slots on the side for cup handles. One cup cavety is slightly smaller than the other. It is installed via a floppy vinyle/rubber flap that you would otherwise slide down the space between the door and door window.
What you do is pry up the surround around the shifter and slide the flap underneath, then press the surround snaps back into place. Works best on the S5's I've found. It will hold just about any size cup.
What you end up with is a two cup holder within easy reach of the driver. And, if you need to slide up the passenger seat, you just flip it up and slide the seat underneath it.
AND, they come in colors to match your interior (ie black, grey, maroon, blue)

go to AutoBACS in japan...you can get TypeR cupholders
i've even seen some here at my local autoparts store...they are cupholders that grab onto the air vents on the FC dash.
I'm not sure its the "safest" idea since the plastic kinda sucks on those and cracks a lot...but i'm sure you guys have seen what i'm talking about...

I made one in the place of the switch panel on the center console. I didn't need the AAS switch anymore so I took it out, and I moved the power window switch up to the plastic space under my cd player. Then I put some aluminum bubble insulation under there to keep my drink from boiling due to all the heat that comes through.
It worked out pretty good, but it's only big enough for cans. When I get the time I'm going to make it a little bigger.
It's not very deep though.

I have solved the infamous cupholder problem in our RX-7's! The answer is the lucky person who gets to sit in the passanger seat of your car! *aplause*
Next week I'll solve gas consumption, wiper switches, and sunroofs!
