creamy substance in oil filler tube??

Changed the oil today in my RX that I just bought last week and noticed a buttery colored creamy substance on the inside walls of the oil filler tube. The car has 170k and the engine has 30k and is a Mazda Reman. Had the car checked over by a rotary mechanic prior to purchasing and he said everything was good. He said the compression and everything was good, and that it could use a few minor maintence things like new plugs, wires and air filter. So everything sounded good and i bought the car. Now I'm a little worried about my findings in the oil filler tube. Could this be a sign that the engine was overheated by the previous owner and is now on its last lag of life??? or is there anything else that it could be. Theres no abnormal exhaust smoke coming out the tailpipes or anything, like no white clouds of smoke or anything. Any help with this would be much appreciated, thanx in advance!!

The only thing I can think of is what foamy/creamy white substance in the oil means on a piston engine and that's coolant in the oil. Perhaps there's a gasket between the housings that is leaking into the oil pan or something. I dunno just a slightly educated guess.

Usually the coolant ring that blows is the inner ring cause its closer to the combustion chamber. It is possible that the out ring could blow at the bottom of the engine and leak coolant into the pan. If the fluild level in the pan starts to go above the full mark on the dip stick, I would suspect this, but it is rare. When did you check your oil? If you had just drove the car, then it is possible that the oil was just foaming up from splashing around in the pan, but it shouldn't be a butter cooler. When is the last time you changed the oil?

I've heard of this happening if the oil area isn't being properly vented (I read it on someone's webpage... I can't think of which one at the moment). They noticed the problem and build a small vent with a catch tube to vent it to the outside. You might want to do a google search on that one. But I don't know if that's what's causing your problem since yours seems to be pretty generically stock, unless there are details you left out.

Project84: I'm not sure when the oil was changed before i changed it out yesterday, because i just bought the car but the oil was fairly dark and old.

DigitalSynthesis:Yes the car is bone stock, as far as other details go the car runs really good, when i bought it last week the mechanic did a few things like changed the heater hose and did a coolent flush on it, plugs, wires and fixed the wax pellet? and adjusted the timing, I just find it weird that when he looked the car over for an hour he didn't have a look at the oil? I was thinking that the engine was in good shape and with proper care it would last a while, but I'm a little miffed about a potential internal coolent leak. thanx, any more help on this matter would be great.

Keep a close check on your coolant level. Drive the car frequently and see if the coolant level goes down. If it does, and if you have no external leaks, things ain't looking good.

As someone else stated, it's just water(more than likely NOT coolant, probably condensation or something) getting in the oil, and it's not being vented as well. I haven't owned an RX-7 yet that hasn't done this.
