Awesome, thanks for the info Icemark... I'll be looking into getting one of those Hornet systems. (You said only the more expensive ones are worth it right? The most expensive one I found is $140)

Oh and I'm sure I could figure this out myself later, but will I be able to control the STOCK alarm with the remote as well? Or will the stock alarm basically lose it's function to the new alarm?

yes, you can enjoy the ability to have two alarms. There is a green/black coming in from the drivers door (and passengers door on some years) and is also at the CPU or stock alarm plug (depending on series).

Anyway, this Grn/blk is the key sensor wire. So if you "T" off your aftermarket systems negitive polarity unlock wire, when you hit disarm/unlock on your remote control it will disarm the factory system as well.

So, you can arm the factory by the standard hold door handle and lock method, and then disarm the factory alarm, by simply disarm/unlock with the aftermarket keyless/security system.

Or if you just want to use the aftermarket security/keyless, you would just use the keyless.

I personally use both most of the time except when I am at the beach and I don't want to carry a remote into the water or leave it on the beach- then I use the factory system only- that way I can carry the key only in my pocket into the water if I want too.

See using both systems, then you now have two systems that the potential theif must get past to take the car, as well as two systems that make noise if someone breaks into the car.

Hey actually this brings up another issue that I was wondering about..

I have the electric windows and door locks from my GXL that I _CAN_ swap into the new shell, which has manual windows/doors (I think).

Can I just swap in the electric door locks, and have them work with the alarm? I know at this point it's getting complicated to wire in a security system, right? But I'd be satisfied being able to close the door with the handle lifted, then hitting a button and calling it all good. I don't really need the electric windows... ads a good amount of weight.

And actually since I've never had this car with a battery in it, I don't know if it has electric locks... I just assume it doesn't 'cause it doesn't have the windows hehe.

could the orginal owner have had these removed when he purchased the car or would some one removed the ***** or could they have just fallen off ?? and ccould the auctuators in the door locks be malfunctioning because i'm not shure what they look like and or ware they would be on the door i have had all the pannaling off my doors and i could not see any thing that looked like an actuator but i mainlly looked buy the switch its self

The GXL does not have a drivers power door lock.

again no matter what North American spec RX-7 year or model you own, it will not have a power drivers door lock. You will need to add one if you want remote control door locks. The stock system in North American RX-7s is a "follow me" system. Where the drivers door only contains a switch and no door lock motor.

The information posted applies to both S4 and S5 models. Wire colors stay the same between the two versions.. only the location of tapping the wires changes.

No 88 verts came with power door locks, and it sounds like you seats have been changed, as even the non-P package verts had lumbar and front of the seat height adjustment for the seats.

could the orginal owner have had these removed when he purchased the car or would some one removed the ***** or could they have just fallen off ?? and ccould the auctuators in the door locks be malfunctioning because i'm not shure what they look like and or ware they would be on the door i have had all the pannaling off my doors and i could not see any thing that looked like an actuator but i mainlly looked buy the switch its self

again, no point in checking the door, no 88 verts came with any power door locks. If you want power door locks you would need to add them.

88SE, working factory alarm Sometimes I arm it, sometimes I don't. Mine can be disarmed by either unlocking the passenger door or trunk. If you turn the key on the drivers door when armed, the alarm will sound (horn, flashing headlights/hazzards) and the car won't start.

As Ice said, to arm just lock both doors from the inside. After you lock the last one, you should hear the alarm beep inside and the amber alarm light will illuminate. It will light up a few times quickly, then beep again and light up slowly. It is now armed and can only be disarmed by unlocking the key in the hatch or passenger door.

You can choose to disable the alarm when locking the car. To do this, don't lock the drivers door from the inside. Instead, close the door and lock it with the key. The system will not arm.

Also as Ice said, the alarm is connected to the key switch. You can leave your windows down witht he alarm armed and if someone reaches in to unlock from the inside and open the door it WILL ring since the key switch was not turned.

That sounds like an aftermarket system, and not the stock system. The stock system can not arm itself.

Well those are the stock non P-package vert seats in that picture.

As you can see, those have the adjustable headrests, just not the head rest speakers.

88 verts don't have rear speakers.

88 P-package verts got head rest speakers, but the same exact seats (except they were leather covered and of course the head rests).
