Lightbulb Crank, fuel is good. NO SPARK! 1987 TII Build Date 6/86

Let me start with some background. This is my second RX-7. I bought it with a Weber DCO 48 set up. 13B NA street ported by Rotary Shack :P
(Although the chassis is a original TII)

I blew the engine on the freeway as me and my buddies were cruising to the track for a day of drifting.

I now am going to a FUEL INJECTED set up with a stock hair dryer.

I was hoping this would be straight forward.

I checked my engine harness for good continuity throughout. I dropped in some resistors for the Low Impedance Injectors and wired everything up.

I dropped in the harness for the CAS and hooked up the 3 ignition coils. I feel like I am missing something or did something wrong.

I got everything plumed up, no fuel leaks, oil was full. I crank it and it sounds great except for the fact that it doesn't turn on.

First thing I do is check for spark. I pull a plug and crank it to see if I can see spark. NOTHING.

I put my timing light on one of the wires to see if that'll pick up the signal. NOTHING.

I hook up a spare CAS and give it a few spins. I hear the injectors clicking. I pull an ignition wire to check for spark. NOTHING!!!

I checked all 3 coils for resistance, they're all good. I believe they read 2Ohms(they were all exactly the same).

I checked my CAS for resistance. I think I got 220Ohms so we're good on that.

Checked for voltage going to the coils. Solid 12V on each of the 3 Black and Yellow wires.

How do I check the signal going to the coils???

And if that is the problem, how do I fix it.

Need help ASAP, this is my first Turbo car and I cannot be more eager to drive it!

Oh, I also tried a N332 ECU, the one I'm going to be running for now is a N333 since the 332 is a Rtek 1.7

Are the coils bolted down to the fender and properly grounded through their case?

^this... i goofed when i installed my FMIC, forgot to reground my coil pack, couldnt figure out why the hell it ran like **** lol. sometimes it would ground, most of the time it wouldnt so i had a sparatic idle. took about a day of tinkering for me to notice the pack was just flopping around...

That is the stupidist thing I have overlooked while working on a car from my whole life. Unfortunately I will have to wait til I get home. But would it matter if only my trailing coil pack isn't bolted down, cuz the leading pack is bolted down and grounded for sure. Either way, I'll try that once I'm home.

with mine it was an issue once, pulled into a parking spot, shut it off and it wouldnt start back up, plenty of fuel and cranking. popped my hood didnt see anything wrong, jiggled some wires closed it and she fired right up. im guessing my wire jiggleing grounded my pack again lol.

Make sure the CAS connection is solid. Also, The Green/Yellow wire at the leading coil is the trigger wire from the ECU. Disconnect the plug and w/key to on measure the voltage on this wire as you rotate the Main Pulley. The voltage should be 5 volts and then briefly turn to 0 volts and then back to 5 volts in a repeated fashion. Turning the Alternator Pulley will turn the Main Pulley. See what you get when doing this.

So I tried everything you guys told me to. Unfortunately, none of those things fixed problem or led me to anything that could be wrong.

Fortunately, a buddie of mine came by and helped me a bit and let me check out his car for refernace.

One thing I asked him to check was all the harness connectors under the Trailing Coil Packs and Brake Master Cyl. We didn't see anything wrong at first until he dug around a bit and found some wires that seemed to be just sticking out.

Turns out the signal connector for the trailing coils(the one with 4 wires) had 2 wires that weren't connected.

They seemed like they were good because they did lead down to the harness but after pulling back some tape. we saw that they weren't hooked up.

I put them back together and went to crank it and now my battery was low :@

I hooked it up to my charger for a while and tried cranking. It definitely had spark now and almost wanted to start.

I didn't let it though since it was 11pm and it only has a Down Pipe at the moment. As soon as I get home though, I'm going to get cracking on it.

Thanks to everyone that helped out though. Hopefully nobody comes across the same issue as I had but if they do, now they have one more thread to read up on
