Crank angle sensor

Two quick questions:
-> Could a faulty Crank Angle Sensor create a no spark or no start situation?

-> My fuel pump is toast, gas tank is toast...I wanna put some gas in the rotary housing to see if it will at least fire for 1 - 2 seconds...does this/could this work?

Follow up question:
Your supposed to be able to test the crank angle sensor with an ohm meter..they should range between 115 Ohms - 230 Ohms... the plug for the CAS would be disconnected so I would have to test it while the engine is turning over..
