cracks in turbine casting on an s4
Yesterday i disassembled my turbo so i could port my s4 wastegate. Turbo came apart fairly easy (with an overly generous amount of pb blaster to the bolts the night before). I noticed about 3 or 4 cracks in the inside of the turbine and about a 16th of an inch (maybe less) of material missing on each of the fins on the wheel. Before i pulled it apart it had a minimum amount of shaft play. i bought the turbo used, after it sat on a car that had not been started for a year and a half. In other words this thing is an ebay special. Now after about 3 and a half hours of porting (very cheap walmart kit with a lot more to go) and being haunted by the phrase
" you are spending all this time and the turbine is going to be unusable" repeating schitzophrenically in my head, it is now time to seek some professional advice. So my questions are......
Based on these pictures, are either of these parts usable?
If the casting is not usable as is could i seal it with some high heat liquid weld and grind it down to its origional form?
If the wheel is unusable does any one know a direct link to a rebuild kit?
i am new and have used the search button only to find vague info like turbine cracks at 30,000 miles or that crack should be fine type stuff. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
