Corvette Electric Airpump Doesn't work for 6ports or VDI
For those that are curious about using an electric airpump to run the 6ports or VDI, I have some results.
I picked up a Corvette Airpump according to Brian Cain. The problem is that it just puts out air, no pressure of any significance. I think it puts out maybe a pound and a half. So, what I am doing is modifying the VDI actuator so and removing the spring and replacing with a weaker spring. I will get some pictures when I am complete.
The VDI requires less pressure to operate than the 6ports, so I will have to see if I can get the same results from the 6port actuators.

Very interesting and Kudos for taking on a project that the N/A guys have wanted for a long time!
The VDI and 6PI actuators are VERY similar in their design. The "weak spring" method should work just fine but keep us informed!!!

i read somewhere that a guy used a airpump from the air suspension system on the earlier year caddy's...not really sure wich years, but,i was gonna see if i could find 1 down the road for my vdi...they might have a bit more pressure, anyway.

cain's vette airpump was to pass emissions, he had no intentions of making 6-ports work since his car is turbo....
if you want it to work check here
www.fc3s.org in the how too's--> electric
wait why are you doing this on an 88? there's no vdi. different car then name?

I understand the reasoning for using the pump on his car, but I was hoping that it would put out enough pressure to run the VDI and/or 6ports.
I do have a VDI on my car. I performed the intake manifold swap. It seems that I have been one of the few, if any, to see any substantial gains from the swap.

The air pump I purchased was from a 97 Corvette. Pretty much any late model Corvette, Camero, or Impala has it. They aren't cheap though. I got a great deal on mine since I work for a dealership, but they list for 170-190. Cheapest I saw on the internet was 130 from a place that said they were 15% over dealer cost.
