Cooling Sytem
I had my heater hose explode on me. The one going from the firewall to the rotor housing. It blew right under the oil filter. I replaced it with an oem hose, but I am still smelling coolant when running, and now have a leak(minimal drops) But i would think I never had any coolant probs before the hose blew so after i change the hose i should have no problems!!!! My red cap is toast, but could pressure have anything to do with a leak? I cant see where its coming from and all hoses seem fine. Please offer suggestion!!! thx

the smell is probably just the old stuff burning off. make sure the rad is full. and go for an hour drive and burn it off. see if the smell is still there. and make sure the rad is still full after.

thanks man. I had that thought in my head - needed to hear someone else say it makes sense. hey also - anyone I didnt flush the cooling system when i replaced this hose. I just filled with a 50/50 mix. Is a flush worth doing, or just have Jiffy Lube do it?

Opinions are like........
I never bother with flushes. I don't care for the recycled antifreeze that some shops use.
I just drain/refill the radiator yearly. This keeps the coolant clean and cooling system trouble free.
I also use distilled water instead of tap water. And, I add a bottle of redline water wetter. I have been using green antifreeze(prestone yellow bottle) for 15 years and haven't had any problems.
Did you say that you still had leaks or is that just the old antifreeze still dripping out of crevices? Time to hose the cold engine down to wash out the spilled antifreeze.
