Cooling Problems continue...any ideas?

Guys,

My cooling problem continues.

I changed the upper and lower radiator hoses AND the thermostat/gasket. I'm still getting the same behavior. I used a MAZDA thermostat so no problems there. When I stop the car and open the hood the air coming off the radiator fan is VERY hot...makes me think that the radiator is working. I wonder if my water pump could be causing this. It must be either the water pump OR, heaven forbid, the radiator (damn expensive).

To Recap:
'87 TII
Gets hot at highway speeds (above 45 or so)
Cools off when you slow down
A/C makes condition worse
All stock shield, belly tray, etc. are in place
Using stock fan

Any Ideas?

Todd

Try removing the belly pan. See if letting more hot air escape works.

These were my two suggestions the first time you asked this! Remove and inspect the pump, remove and flush the radiator.

Escape? Um, wrong side of the radiator...
Besides, that will only reduce the amount of air going into the radiator at speed and worsen the problem.

I concur with NZconvertible on this. Do the basics first.

Yeah.....I know NZ....I was trying to do the easiest stuff first.....plus I already had the new hoses and the thermostat. I'll pull that pump on Thursday and let you know what I find out. After the pump comes the radiator (cringe)!

Thanks,

Todd

There's a write-up at www.fc3s.org if you need one. Good luck.

Did you test the thermostat before you installed it?I have come across NEW MAZDA thermostats which did not open to the spec opening.I always test them before installation now.

I did not test it...however I did try two different MAZDA thermostats and neither made a difference.
