coolent question

I have a coolent question but hopfully not a problem..My car does not overheat, the buzzer never goes off and the gauge stays right where it should at about 1/4 the way up. I noticed That the coolent level in the overflow tank never changes and the water in it is allways cold, never flowing through the engine. Is this normal?? Thanks Dan 88 vert

Generally when the engine runs hot and pressurizes, coolant sometimes will flow out into the overflow tank. It should only do that when there is too much within the system. As the car cools down, it gets colder and loses pressure. To avoid causing bubbles everywhere and shortening the life, it drags extra coolant in the tank into the system. I don't really notice much movement in my tank either...

This time of year you won't see much if any movement. In the summer time when it get's hotter outside and the car runs a bit hotter you may see a bit of movement in the overflow tank. Dosn't sound like you have anything to worry about.
