Coolant sprayed out of the engine
Just went for a drive, and I'm afraid it was the last drive with the rex as we know it. When I had parked I noticed smoke coming from the engine. (It was dark outside). It was steam coming from coolant which was sprayed out on the hot engine from somewhere near the BAC. As I said, it was dark, it might even came from the BAC. When I felt the big upper coolant hose I could feel some boiling in there.
I'm afraid the engine is badly damaged. I will have to see tomorrow. For now I've placed a big plastic tray under the car to prevent coolant flowing on the street.
Marco.

Hopefully it will not be as bad as you fear. If a cooling hose lets go there will no pressurized system and water will boil @ 212 degrees, depending on elivation, rather then the higher temp under pressure.
Hope you didn't drive it with gauge pegged!

Yeah,
I hope it's just a blown hose. I've got a new set of hoses on the shelf. But I'm still a bit (actually very much) worried about how much damage I did to engine. I mean the coolant in the engine was boiling!! But on the other hand, I did not notice to high a temperature on the gauge. So... maybe it's not so bad as it looks is it??

well if u lost pressure, Turbonut is right your coolant will start to boil around 212 mabe a little higher cause of the antifreeze. i had a 87 na se and i over heated that thing at least 20 times (gauge pegged out) and once i solved all the little problems the coolant seals were still holding

It's doesn't like the end of the world in your situation. There's a good chance it's one of the coolant lines going from the BAC to the back of the TB housing or something like that, and as they've stated before, when it's not pressurized and air gets to it, it boils at a lower temp. It's not something to worry about just yet (unless you drove like that for a long time) Chances are you can just replace the hose and be on your way. If you're really paranoid, fix the hose, fill the coolant again, and start the car and let it warm up and idle and then pull the cap off the overflow canister and see if there are bubbles coming from the end of the hose, of so, then the seals did die.

Read up on the throttle body mod and you can loose that PITA hose forever.
