coolant leak??

My knowledge of rotaries are next to zilch...
Recently my coolant spilled out, I'm looking for the hose or the source of the problem, but...i'm not having luck finding it...

Well, the car seemed normal while i drove it to work, and when night time came, all you see is a puddle of coolant, i went home....and put more coolant, and told my dad...he said just drive it one more day to work...so i did the same....in the morning, it seemed fine, no leak, but when i drove to work, at night when i came out....there was a puddle of coolant...

I just read somewhere that if you have a coolant leak like that, its a sign of engine dying..true? or false..

as soon as i find the source of this problem, i'm having my engine's compression checked, but for now....i'm just looking for a hose that maybe out or whatever...haven't had much time to really look though, with work and all....

Thanks

edit: i do have a 1988 TII, all stock....most of the common problems are on the car, 5th geary synchro, wipers don't work..etc...project car...but i still need a car for now..till i get my daily driver..i know wrong order...

get the cooling system pressure tested (you can do it, or a shop can) and look for leaks... using the factory shop manual (FSM) (goto http://www.fc3s.org ...it's there... i think under how-to) ...anyway, using the FSM trace the cooling system and look for leaks...

If you already checked the heater hoses and radiator hoses check the one that goes from rear rotor to the throttle body it is a real pain to get to , so hopefully that is not it. Mine was spraying onto the exhaust manifold heat shield. I could see that it was leaking from somewhere and evaporating but couldn't tell from where until I left the hood open and revved the engine a little. Good luck.

or anything of that sort...thanks

Check your water pump - could be a leak there...
if not, look around... but most likely, if it's little spots here and there, it's a leak in the water pump.. or somewhere thereabouts....I could be wrong though.

everything is fine when i drive it...its when i park...cant say for sure..cause the parking spot is on a slight slant...so all the coolant slides down....a little...

even when i drive it home...and that night i put it in...there was no puddle or anything in the morning...thats what i thought was strange....

thanks for your help guys

Check your PM inbox

I live near you and can help you diagnose this weekend pretty easily. I've seen about every possibility in diagnosing a slow leak in my Vert.

I've been fighting my cooling system for about 2 months now, so I have pretty much covered ANYTHING

Anyway, even pressure-checking your cooling system isnt a guaranteed way to isolate the problem.
a) check your rad cap (yours seems fine to me)
b) check the overflow tank (pretty easy, just two bolts)
c) check the little hoses going to the overflow tank
d) check the main hose from radiator to thermostat housing
e) check thermostat housing for cracks
f) check heater hose (bottom right side and towards the back of engine)
g) if all above check out fine, THEN do a pressure check
h) if the leak is very slow, then the crack on whatever hose is damaged is going to be very small, hence very difficult to find. I'd say just replace them all (they are plastic rubber and very cheap)
i) the last thing to check is the water pump, outside and -if its OK- on the inside, for any leaks.

.....but I think you should be find by now

Odd places for coolant leaks...

I spent off and on a year trying to find a slow leak. Replaced every hose I could find, and still was evasive.

Had occasional coolant boiling problems during the summer months that would reminding me it was still there. Buged me to no end like a mosquito in the night.

Turned out coolant was drip leaking from the back of throttle body itself. No kidding.

Took easy way out and got a different throttle body from a wrecking yard. No problem since.

I've had to replace the thermostat "o" ring twice. It only leaked when car cooled. Pressure tester and some talcum powder...Found it.
