Coolant buzzer and waterpump cavitation

The coolant buzzer in 89 GXL seems to go off periodically for no apparent reason. The car does not overheat or use coolant. This started happening after a couple of autocrosses in the fall. There is plenty of coolant in the radiator and the reserve tank. I assume there are bubbles in the system for a lot of aggressive autocrossing. Can this be the problem or could there be another problem? Is there a sensor that could be bad?

If I am spinning the water pump too fast with high RPM 2nd gear autocrosses then would it be a good idea to get one of the underdrive waterpump pullies or are they really for road racing?

The car is street driven and autocrossed, but it is not a daily driver. Thanks for any help.

That buzzer is a Mazda thing. It has to do with the sensor being on top of the radiator and the fluid sloshing around during hard autocross turns. If you work the track, you will notice that the older Miatas do the same thing.

If you're running sustained over 4kRPM and the stock pulleys, it's cavitating.
An underdrive main pulley should fix the problem.

Also, something that has happened to me when teh car sat for awhielin cold weather.

If the tube that goes to the overflow gets clogged or sluggish, the buzzer will go off. As best as I can understand it, it drained back to the overflow, sat, and then when it needed it, it couldn't suck it back in. I replaced teh line and haven't had a probelsm since...

Coolant buzzer

Thanks for the responses guys. Will check on that tube Kenteth.

Ted-- Can I run the smaller main pulley without adverse affects in street driving?

Thanks again.
