Question cool air intake tube

has anyone thought about cutting a small circle maybe 3in in diameter to the right of the passenger ftp lens then cutting a 3in hole right in front of the cone intake in the radiator support then putting a 3 in tube of any sort there such as stainless steel tube or some sort of a/c ducting . well the point of this is if no one caught on b/c i have bad explaining skillz is to run direct air from outside straight to the cone . u would need a cool air box obviously but still i think it would work what do u guys think ?
i think itll kinda look like the new supras when they cut the hole in the light or buy a new light wi th the hole cut for the intake .i know someone before me posted not too long ago about cutting ther hole in the rad. support and putting the cone basically in fron of the grill good idea i just have another one
i thought about rain but i think itll be ok especially if u clamp some sort of screen on either end well enough talking i waan hear some responses
thanks
jack

That would be a great idea, only problem is the entire light assembly is behind the ftp lens when its down. So if you cut that hole it would do no good if you ever put the lights down. =/

uhhh next to the light is the radiator, thats a tough one to move. You should measure a 3 in circle in cardboard and put it on your car, thats a meaty size hole. Not trying to be pessimistic but you really will have a tough time finding room for that.

Why cut a hole? Ive seen people run a tube from the grill to the intake and they dont have to cut anything. I dont think it makes enough of a difference to cut the car up, but maybe thats just me.

I dont know of anyone who has done it. If you dont mind cutting your car and are willing to try it, go for it. Id like to see how it looks. How would you make the hole look clean?

The hole he is talking about is where the windsheild washer resivor sits you remove/relocate that and use that hole which is already a 2inches to create a 3 inch opening there are metal cutters for your common drill that cut 3 inch holes i have one. My friend did this and it helped him drop a few tenths off of his quarter mile he now runs a 14.4-14.6 NA engine... I live in augusta 96% humidity all the time so think what it could do somewhere where there is little to no humidity...heheh

This is how you want to do it. You need to have some stuff removed; but why have that crap anyways. This was my 23 attempt at getting cool air at the filter, but I think this is the one.

UMMM....Wouldn't that hurt cooling by taking away radiator air?

i like the way that's set up. I don't know if I could get my TII to work ot like that or not, since I'd need to run it back to the AFM, then down to the turbo. Might end up making more turbulence than the current set-up and just be a waste of time for the turbo guys to run something like that

I as just looked at mine and it looks like you needed to do a good bit of cutting to get that hose through there without hitting the rad or headlight. Nice work, but like I said before, I don't think that would work out too well with my current set-up

I only needed to cut one 3 inch hole which didn't turn out to be too hard. As far as cooling goes. I have seen no increase in temps since the install, but I also have a preaty strong E-fan, and no AC condensor to suck up air. The filter is only covering up about 6 square inches of the radiator which is not a very large amount. If you factor in the removal of the AC condensor all of the piping and other misc junk I have removed, I would bet there is more usable surface area of the radiator now than before. A major downside is the rain effect. I have tested it out in a light shower with no ill effects but in a heavy down-pour it might suck in water. A little water should not hurt the motor but may rust some of the intake components. Since I do not drive this car in the rain (other than testing, or getting stranded) I have no concern for the rain effect. The air-pump is still on the car to actuate the 6th ports and VDI via a custom setup. Removeing the air-pump to save 10 pounds and a belt is not worth losing the inovative intake setup on these cars. Compare it to a Honda vtec; would disableing the vtec to save a few pounds and excess complexity be worth the loss in power band? Anyways; this cool air setup is by far the best as far as power goes. I have went from stock airbox to a ump-teen number of custom air-boxes and none of them even touch this one. It is not for everyone though. And determining if it will work for you should be thoughtout extensively.

I will find the thread about the whole process.
