TII conversion is all I have to say. I currently own a 91 convertible and a 89 TII and I would like to say that convertibles weigh quite a bit too much to be really fast, but you could still do the basics, intake, exhaust and others.

The Rx7 verts was not built to be a very fast car and will never be a very fast car unless you drop a **** load of money into it. I have a HKS intake, high flow cat, Greddy Power Extreme exhaust and some weight reduction(i.e. taking spare tire out) on my 91 vert and I felt a noticeable gain in power. I think that's the entry level upgrades most rx7 owner will start out with. If you want big power for your vert, then you will want to drop a supercharger in or do a TII conversion. Both will cost you $$$$$ and it's not a simple task.

IMO, if you're just looking to get a little more power to smoke some of these annoying hondas, the above entry level mods and some good suspension is all you'll need.

1. Full exhaust
2. Intake
3. ECU Upgrade

That will give you more acceleration than a stock coupe. No matter how much you do, though, the coupes will always be qucker, faster and more nimble with the same mods.

Get the T11 and get street porting done with all the rest above...it'll be fun!

Yes weight is always a concern...perhaps a 4.3 final drive just to make the revs move faster?
