Constant split air to cat = bad?
I finally got my split air pipe hooked up a month or so ago, but since my ECU thinks the split air solenoid is fubar, I just made it so it constantly pushes air into the cat.
Does anyone know whether this is bad for the cat or not?

I did the same thing....... Now my catalytic converter is R.I.P. After a couple weeks of high RPM driving, I noticed that familiar rotten egg smell. Took it off, rattle rattle.... Yours might last longer, because I think my cats were already dying... but, still.. a great way to hollow your cats out.

The Split Air Solenoid only opens when your in fifth gear. See your local FSM for the car. Fuel Section.

I've got a spare already...
But I kind of doubt mine is really bad since it holds a current and the resistances seemed normal (that is how the ECU detects problems anyway). Didn't check it with a battery to see if it actuates though...
If you've got a working S5 dashpot (throttle damper thingy) for sale, I'd love to buy it, though...

I'll give you one of those, hows 5 bucks.
I did the same thing with a gslse I previously had. I could be mistaken, but I think even when the split air soleniod is sending air to the cat its still metering it in some what. I had the airpump directly connected to the cats on a gslse and they where glowing red hot at idle. When the car was on the dyno for a smog check it lit a peice of carpet under the car on fire.
