considering 90 vert questions

hey guys, i'm considering buying a 1990 Convertable rx7, i went and saw it, the guy says he had the motor rebuilt, is there any way i could find out for sure without envolving him, like some sort of sign on the engine, when i test drove it there seemed to a be a rumble through the steering and the gear shift, could this mean it just needs a tune up, the rumble was very faint, i only noticed it because my 1990 GX runs smoother. Also, are replacement tops expensive? the top is okay it just has a few tar patch ups i dont liek as well the cover for when its down is missing. 220,000km on body 60,000km supposdly on rebuilt motor. It has some add ons like a K&N cone filter and a custom dual exhaust, Will the convertable be considerably slower than my hard-top, or around the same?
anyways hes asking 5200cdn un-certified. comes with two sets of tires and a kenwood sub. and custom two tone leather seats which were somewhat poorly done.
good deal?
heres a picture of it (car has been lowered):

Well, Im not Canadian, so translate to USD. Do a compression test and look at the receipts that this person obviously has for the rebuild, and check oil, coolant, and the radio station on the stereo dial. Hard rock, or Rap, its probably not a good deal. Soft rock, or classical, the guy takes care of his vehicle. Sounds silly, but check it all out.

ohh i also have a qestion about my GX, it stalls whenever i put the air conditioning on, so i have developed super human foot control where i have to stick it in nuetral and break with my left foot and keep the rpms around 1000 so it doesnt stall when i stop, maybe thats a good reason to get a convertable, but anywho is it normal for this to happen? any soultions i was thinking a choke.

Back to the vert, I would do checks stated previously, before, before, before, you consider purchasing it. The car looks clean, but ask for the receipts, and do the compression check and check fluids also. Price seems a little high, but you get what your willing to pay. I paid 2000 USD for mine , 1990 vert, na, with about 150 thou miles on engine, and my compression is about 115, so I think I got a great deal. But check out thoroughly first, then decide. As far as AC, take it out, Canada is cold place, dont need it. hehehehehehheehe

Yes the vert will be slower by a good amount, the by-product of about 300lbs of extra structure and equipment. Lots of people on this site go through some weight reduction efforts, and they help some, but a vert will always be slower than any equally treated coupe. But in all other ways they are very solid, fun cars. If its wide open wind and sun you want, you can't get that in a coupe so it will be worth it.

noooooo, $4300 for a convertible thats not a full TII is outrageous. I wouldn't pay more than $3700 for it, but some things are just worth more to some people.

^When my vert had the stock 6port engine, my friends stock 86 gxl would just barely get a half a car on me. Some people say it's alot slower cause the weight (which it should be) but you don't really notice it that much cause the lack of power to begin with.
