cone filter vs. K&N drop-in

This question would be mainly for N/A guys. Is there really that much of a power increase to get a cone filter rather that a drop in K&N filter?? Lets consider that one isnt running a cold air box with a cone filter: Would the extra heat intake counteract the cold air benefits of the stock air box/K&N? Even if you have a cold air box, what kind of horsepower gains would a cone filter setup have over the drop in option?

The reason I ask is because I would like to minimize engine noise from the front of my car. I have been running a HKS setup for a few years, and I have been considering switching back to my previous airbox/K&N setup to quiet things down a bit. Any input appreciated.

You can do the reese setup & just drill 2" holes in your OEM airbox - LOL.

I just think its amazing that you can hear your engine noise, my exhaust drones out everything I've never experienced it with a FC, but when my friend had his PGT, he got a K&N drop-in, and about a week later threw it away in favor of a cone setup. A K&N im sure flows more than the stock paper, but it still has to pull it in through the restrictive snorkle. A cone with a cold air box would me much better, and even without a box it I'd think..

It doesn't make much difference on a somewhat stock NA for the reasons that you gave. You could always just try the drop-in and see what you think, but I doubt that you would be able to notice any performance difference either way. I had a drop-in K&N on my NA, and it worked great. I didn't like the HKS intake on my TII because the element got dirty too fast, and you can't clean it.
