Component Speaker Installation Question

After perusing the audio forums and reading about the various options available to me, I decided to go with Rockford Fosgate 6.5" components in the front and the rear on my 91 FC. Here's where the installation troubles begin. After taking out the door trim and attempting to insert the speaker in the front doors, I noticed that it hits the window and the metal frame behind the trim. In the back, I think I had un-amped 4" speakers and could not get my 6.5" to fit there either. I'm sorta stuck because I've read that 6.5"'s can fit without cutting but I don't see anyway they can fit. My ideas are to build a custom ring for the back speakers and to drill/dremel a space through my door trim to fit the 6.5"s in the front. Is there any other alternative that I can pursue without having to cut/custom build?

I've put 6.5" speakers in the front of an FC before without trouble. There was a black plastic ring with three screw holes (yes, three) that I was able to attach the speaker to. I guess you might not have this ring, thus the problem. Is that the case? If so, try the for sale section or the junkyards.

For the rear speakers, I just cut the hole bigger in the stock metal ring. I've heard Cruthcfield sells a ring to replace the stock one, but that it's flimsy, so I'd just cut the stock one.

6.5" diameter speakers fit, and in general it seems the depth is do-able, but my boston acoustics 6.5's clear the window by just a hair. i would imagine that means that yes, some 6.5s will sit too deep to clear. maybe you can put a piece between the speaker and the door panel to have them sit out a bit further.

Remember there are some brands 6.5" speakers that are actually 6 inch speakers (160mm) and there are 6.5" speakers that really 6.5" (170mm) speakers.

The Mazda 6" locations are all 160 mm. So need to look at the actual size of the speaker specs when choosing a 6.5" speaker.

They fit fine in the speaker in terms of size, it's the depth that bothers me. Is there anyway to get around hitting the window or the metal frame, or will I have to mount it further out?
