it seems that actuly making a lid for the cool air box would be better? correct me if im wrong.
Nick86 this weekend im going to be making the exact same type of box you are most likly with 3'' or 4'' PVC pipe. prolly going to use a funnel on the front of the PVC, hoping for a ram-air type of thing.
If you were to seal the box with a lid, then you wouldnt pull in ANY engine air. But would there be an issue with not getting enough air at idle? Do you think it would suck enough air in through the tube?
also, the small filter for the air pump. is it recomended i route that so it also gets cold air? or does it matter?

Thanks!
Thanks!
1- get air as cold as possible
2- get smooth unturbulated air
3- get as high air pressure as possible
So you need to get air from somewhere before it has been heated by radiators, exhaust pipes and engine parts, you need to watch the material you make your air intake from as you don't want it to heat the air. (alluminium is NOT a good material to make a air intake from)
You need to get the least amounts of turns it the air flow, the air cleaner is beter placed as far away from the intake as possible and you need the air to go UP through the air cleaner elemant and NOT down as down will block quickly. Be carfull of the size of the intake as it is beter to be large for the air flow is slower but the heat soak is a bigger problem the larger you go.
The higher the pressure you can get in the air box the better. You will not get better than half a PSI air pressure in your air box but that is better than a vacuum.
