Clutchless 88 rx-7

I am new to Rx-7s and the car market in general I was hoping the members of the rx-7 forum could tell me what are reasonable prices and if it seems like a practical buy.

1988 rx-7 that needs a clutch. guy is getting rid of it to pay for college. here are the details on it
5sp(minus clutch
13b re (180k "runs great")

nothing was said in the add about the brakes or tires so the owner will call me back hopefully today.
it is located in socal and the asking price is 795 I have around 700 in my bank right now and I am scheduled to get a hand me down old sentra from my grandma when she buys her new car this week.

Thanks for your help.

13b re? not unless it was swapped, probably 13b. 180k will need a rebuild, probably not too far down the road. For the price I'd make it mine though. if it wasn't your plan i'd DD the sentra and project car the 7 for a little bit.

The ad says 13b re so i guess it is an engine swap. A rotary rebuild is about 600 right. How much could i expect to get out of that engine a few months? a year?(sorry i don't know much about practical car use) i might just save up and make a jdm engine swap instead of replacing the clutch then if it will only give me a few months and just wait till i can afford that. Considering the guy doesn't say anything about brakes I will try and negioate the price down. Thanks again for you assistance I am looking forward to join the rx-7 community as an rx-7 driver.

I am in the process of putting in a new flywheel and clutch. My old clutch has only like around 4,000 - 5,000 miles. I'd sell it like 40 bucks shipped if you wanted it. It would be clutch disk and pressure plate. The clutch went into my 88 s4 13b.

don't count on a rebuild only costing $600. You might get close to that if you rebuild the motor BEFORE it actually blows up, and you only buy a basic rebuild kit, and you do all the labor yourself. If you have it rebuilt...you're looking at least $1000 (and that's going through kevin landers here on the forum) Most other shops you're easily looking at $2000+

13B-RE? Isn't that a JDM motor already? What was this, a failed swap attempt?

_NO_ clutch, or the clutch went bad? If there's really _NO_ clutch, I'd be quite afraid of that car if you actually wanted to drive it, and you aren't well versed in wrenching on FC's.

And you're thinking about owning two cars? The sentra and the 7? you're going to tag and insure and store and maintain both?

Urmm... I think I'm too old. Sounds like a catastrophe waiting to happen.. or maybe just a character building life experience around the corner for you..

The price may not be too bad, but the practicality seems highly suspect to this ignorant internet idiot. Depends on how you want to spend your time and money, I guess.

13-re is a twin turbo motor that came in the cosmos, and if that motor was in the car, it would sell for a lot more that 7 hundo or whatever

Lol, a JDM engine swap from this supposed 13B-RE(which is already a better "JDM" btw) to what? Is this car even turbocharged? You'd be downgrading the engine if it really has a 13B-RE in it, unless u went 20B (dream )

Unless this car is perfect other than the clutch I would have to say pass on it, unless you can get it for under $500. I paid $400 for my 89 in feb and since then have spent around $1000 getting her back together doing almost all of the labor myself... but mine needed a rebuild and front fenders/ bumper (clutch and starter too)... and she still needs more... but I dont regret it... its a blast to drive. So just be warned... if you buy an 80's car it will need work and if you dont have spare cash that you can throw at it you might want to pass this up for now.
