Clutch slipping

i bought my car a few months ago its a 87 tII and when i baught it the guy had said he put in a new clutch in it when i was driving home i notices it was slipping in every gear accept 1st when i would give it gas. i also noticed that the clutch pedal hight was way out of adjustment it still had about another 3 inches to come up so i adjusted that the about a month ago kuz a week after i baught the car i got my licence taken away i was wondering if that would be the problem or not or if i have to buy a new clutch or presure plate or somthing i havent tested it out yet because theres no insurance on the car. thx
