Clutch release(throwout) bearing/ fork question ? it has some play
hello im working on my rx7 and putting the engine in
i took off the old release bearing(throwout bearing), and after i put the new one on it has some play on it where it attaches to the release fork... Is this normal ?
it is also farther out on the shaft and the only way to keep it from going forward is to hold it in place...i figure when i put the engine on it will be held back in place tho...is this also normal ?
hope to know soon so i can continue my work on getting the engine in

Do the forks look worn? Does the new part look the same as the old? Are we talking a few thousandths or is it flopping around? Did the old one lock up and lathe the forks a little? On the location issue, make sure your fork is snapped on to the little ball. Just some things to check. Good luck.

and no it is not snapped onto the ball thing ( if thats what i just mentioned)...so that is probably the problem.
How do i get the fork to snap onto the ball ? there must be a groove in the fork for it to snap into correct ? my haynes manual did not specify this
and as far as wear the only wear on it is where the tongs on the fork are attached to the throwout bearing , you can see the metal is all shiny where it is a little worn down but not really much at all ...there is alot of play but that is probably because it isnt snapped into place as you said ( i hope this is the whole problem)
thanks for your help, please reply
