clutch problem

Im almost done with the 5 speed swap, but when i go to put it in gear the clutch does nothing, i cant put it in reverse because the tranny just grinds, i have a ACT street/strip clutch with the heavy duty PP i was wondering if it could be the slave cylinder, i dont know how many miles are on the slave cylinder i was thinking that it was not srtong enough to push the pressure plate, and i did bleed the system a few times so it is not that

Thanks
Dan

I think that could be a good possibility. I just put a RB racing pressure plate in my car and find that complete disengagement is at the very bottom of the clutch pedal travel within the last 1/4 to 1/2 inch. It used to be much earlier. If everything else is on tight and correctly installed you might get a rebuild kit for the slave cylinder and master? I think I might be doing the same soon.

Well, pull that sucker out and rebuild it and tell us! I couldn't say, seeing as I haven't done mine yet either. Looking at the parts for rebuild makes it look pretty simple though.

Um.. .one trick i've heard is that if you're going to do one, do the other, as they normally will wear in sets...

[edit]By that I mean both master and slave... sorry, i should have been more clear.

ok i have adjusted the clutch pedal, replaced the slave cylinder, and bled the system plenty of times and nothign has changed, the clutch will not disengage, i have the rear tires jacked up in the air so i can try to fix it, and when i go to put it into reverse it just grinds, the only way it will go into reverse is if i start it in reverse

The tranny shifts while the engine is running, but the clutch won't engage? If you start it in gear, does the car lurch forward?

you can test the slave with a friend..have him push in the clutch pedal...while you watch how far the slave moves..if its not moving a good 1-2 inches..then you have a bad slave..its not always a 100% test..but it seems as though you have exhausted the rest of the possibilities...,.basically if that slave doesnt move..then the clutch does not work properly.;

pusshing in the pedal creates pressure from the master cylinder(if its working)..that pressure is sent through the hose to the slave cylinder( if the hose has leaks you will see fluid dripping after 5-10 pumps, depending on how bad the leak could be, that fluid will hit the floor) so that leaves the slave as the final culprit..if it dont move..and theres no fluid..try replacing it....if after that you still have problems..the next part inline is the throw out bearing..it pretty much works in that order if you are looking for hydraulic problems...if all of these things check out..maybe your alignments are off or your pp is not as new as you thought?

you can start it in gear and drive it without the use of the hydraulic clutch..by simply synchronizing the gear shifting..throughout the gears...

ive also heard of some shipping or internal problems coming from the tranny itself....while the car is off can you shift to each gear?..sometimes there are bearings or whatever stops the tranny uses (in the particular gates) they fall out of place and prevent the car from going in gear whether the clutch works or not...

ive also heard of a problem of engagement..if you dont properly lubricate the input shaft..while installing the clutch kit. not properly lubing it could cause the parts to stick and not move freely....hence not working effectively..

my clutch bearing shattered because I didnt lubricate it when I put it on, and my clutch wouldnt engage then, that could be the problem

Sorry, I'm not sure if you answered the first part of my question. Does the car shift while the engine is running, if it doesn't, I know exactly what you did wrong...

Sounds like you did something wrong on the install.

Did you put the clutch disk in backwards?

If you've verrified the slave cyl. is working properly and adjusted the pedal according the the FSM, then you'll probably have to drop the tranny again.

Yes the car will shift while the engine is running but it is without using the clutch
