Clucth switch?

What does that thing do? I mean seriously it tells the ecu that the clucth is engaged... SO what?! Ok the only thing i can see there beeing any use for it is when you brake switch goes and just replace it with a clucth switch.

But does anyone know what its intended function it is?

If you are referering the the little switch behind the clutch pedal, its purpose is to make sure that the clutch is pressed in when you start the car, so you don't lunge forward if you are in gear. I'm sure there are more purposes too it as well, but I don't know them off hand.

Neutral positions switch over the ECU to cold start mode (when starting cold) and for other emissions controls that get switched on or off depending on temp
