A white, heavier version of a regular TII, with some badges, tints, and leather.
The majority of FC owners want a cheap, fast car. Hardly anyone reallys wants to pay a premium for an FC, AE or not.
Its collector value seems to be highly publisized around here, but until I actually see people line up and pay top dollar over a regular TII of equal quality, I have to agree with the 'other' Evil that its just hype.

As for your core assertion that the 10AE package is mostly aesthetics, I totally agree. This is why it is not worth much today, and likely will never be worth anything. Had Mazda added special performance mods, such as a supercharger, 3-rotor engine, ram air, or whatever, it would have a better chance of becoming a more valuable collector's item. If you think about it, most of the high-value collector cars sell for a lot of money due to performance items, not fancy paint jobs and badges. Hopefully Mazda will figure this out before the next anniversary model 5 years from now, assuming that the RX-7 still exists then.

The 10th AE is worth something. Maybe not as much as some of us think, but it is still worth more then a Plain Jane 88 TII. You disagree, and we have covered this ground before. If you want to continue the debate, by all means, my AIM or MSM handles are below.

This arguement reminds me of when I went to look at a black 90 model GTU thats been sittin in these people's yard on the edge of town. It was in excellent condition as far as the body and interior go so I was curious as to why it was sitting. I talked to the lady that owned it and she told me,get this, she told me she was keeping it for it collectors value. I looked at her with a blank face and was like "you realize that those cars arent worth anything, and all your doing by letting it sit is ruining the motor?" she goes "oh no, its worth something I'm sure, its a mint condition sports car. It has a rotary engine, if you know what that is. they dont make those anymore." The dumb bitch didnt even realize I just pulled up in the same kinda car! Damn, what the hell is wrong with people!

BTW. 2 years ago I payed $800 for a 10AE that had a couple of dents, bad seats and a turbo manifold leak. Drove it home, Pulled the engine, trans and seats. and sold the shell to someone for $200.
I rebuilt the motor with a street port and put the drive train in my 89 vert along with a front mount and a haltech.
Is my vert worth more because it has a 10AE motor in it?
The vert is white too. Maybe I should put some 10AE badges on it.

I initially wanted a pure stock AE as well, but soon realized that I also wanted tons of power.
An AE that is stripped and filled with aftermarket, then really just becomes a modded TII in terms of its 'collector value'

didnt mazda (in japan) kinda step up the"anniversary" type thing when they did the spiritR? before discontinuing the fd? it was a little more robust wasnt it? better handling and stuff right? maybe they are getting a little clue...
i could be wrong cuz ive never actually seen one...just stumbled across a motorweek type segment on it. i only say this in retort to the previous statement..hoping mazda gets a clue about the current market and why people would pay more for a car..other than just its namesake, case in point the "anniversary" thing. cuz i agree..if you celebrate an anniversary..its not just a backyard bbq..its an all out party/event!! you dont show up with bud light instead of the usual busch beer, to your anniversary...you come with crystal, dom, a bottle of louis..etc... and such..unless you really dont care about the actual reason you are celebrating..then you just bring milwakees best. i really respect the idea of the ae..but hindsight says maybe mazda would have never dropped the us version due to a slow market..if they had come strong, and turned some heads, when they were representing the "anniversary" of an innovation..the rx7..had they put a 3 rotor or really brought something representative of what most of us enthusiasts really think the ae could've..and should've been, to the table..an actual celebration of what the everyday rx-7 was..a celebration of what it represented..unique performance..so in hindsight i kinda think they dropped the ball when they presented a pricey version of the s-4 tII with bells and whistles that dont really ring louder or whistle louder than the actual tII..they just polished the bells and whistles so they shined brighter and looked more appealing at the time...and... "at the time" is a big part of mazdas argument for doing it, i think...cuz back then people( the market) wanted shiny toys that were facetious and didnt do anything, other than carry a name that falsely represented it as being better than the normal tII..so the everyday dork with more money than you or i could feel better about himself cuz he spent more on a shinier version of what the working man already had....mazda knew that the market was just a bunch of terds that would pay more for lustre as opposed to performance...whereas now the rx7 enthusiast really appreciates the distinction of having a rotary powerplant over pistons cuz we all know the potential some 15 years later.......just my thoughts on what happened...not trying to stir up the pot..just expressing my individual position on the matter. oh yeah...the car looks ok on the outside but the color..well we all stand in agreement on that dont we...gagging as i sign off and reflect on the ugly blue waste of mazdas aniversary edition of what i love...the rx-7

I would have to look up the original prices to make a more accurate comparison, but it looks like the 10AE vs. TII Blue Book values are pretty close to their original selling price percentage difference.

In Michigan 10 AE's generally sell for at least a grand more than what you could find for an 88 TII in equal condition. That has a lot to do with Michigan not having any TII's to begin with (for sale at least) and 10 AE's are incredibly rare around here.

If thats what you meant by "gone forever" then yes, My car is gone forever. In the hands of someone that will love it more than I did.
