Charcoal canister is cracked...why?

I noticed that my charcoal canister is cracked at the top (and has been for some time I guess). I was going to just replace it but then, what causes a charcoal canister to crack... I'm guessing something must be wrong otherwise this sort of thing wouldn't just happen right? I'll be checking the check valve soon, but that wouldn't explain why it cracked...would it?

It could crack if it got clogged up and then saw boost pressure.

I think I would just replace it though, they are cheap
