Question change oil pan gasket. on the ground?

any one change the oil pan gasket on the floor, with out the use of a lift ? just using jack stands and jacks. my oil pan gasket is dripping and once gets a little warmer want to change it, if any one did this with the basic tools let me know how long it took, and any hard areas to get to. i know by the front cover is tight. but other than that cant think of any where else, i did search but just found guys asking about it or how to do it, just want to hear from someone that went through the whole thing. thanks for any advice john.

I was about to say... hmm... not possible because one of the motor mounts is attached to the oil pan. But, what about jacking up and supporting the transmission, which is attached to the engine? You'd still have the left side motor mount to help support the weight.

Did it on jackstands and a jack supporting the transmission. I also had an engine hoist supporting the engine. Really more for insurance. Once you unbolt the engine mounts, you can raise the engine enough to gain clearance to the oil pan bolts under the front cover.

Small wobble 1/4" extension and 10mm flex-head wrenches were very helpful. Other than that, all standard stuff.

You have to lift the engine up to somehow get the weight off of that passenger side mount. also, you have to be able to access the front bolts which are hard to get to without the engine somewhat lifted. I've done a pan gasket with the engine in the car on stands, but not without an engine lift.

USE THREEBOND FOR SEALANT!!! I can't stress that enough.

I used drive up ramps and a jack under the tranny. Worked fine. But make sure it's the oil pan that is leaking because I thought mine was and it turned out to be the front cover. It was leaking from the front drivers side lower corner.

X2, I had mine off using ramps with really no problem...Just turned out it was not my pan leaking.

FYI for those who can't find their leaks. The best way to do this is to clean everything off really well with brake cleaner and a bunch of rags. Then get a fistful of baby powder and blow it towards the affected area. Drive the car, then inspect the baby powder. You'll see a trial of seepage where the leak was coming from. I used to have some kind of aerosol spray can that would do that, but I was never able to find it again.

FC pans rarely leak, usually it is the front cover or OMP with the oil running down the side of the pan and off the rear.
