CF Sunroofs - what do you want?
I am planning on making carbon fiber sunroof panels for the second gen rx. I need one for myself this spring so as long as nothing goes drastically wrong they will be done in a couple of months max. But i need to know what you want and if your interesed, and how much. I know a lot more people will say they are interested and will never buy so please think about it before posting saying you want one for sure.
So they are obviously going to made out of carbon fiber but that leaves things very wide open. Do people want multiple layers of carbon fiber or a carbon fiber outside supported by fiberglass. (this is how most carbon fiber parts are made)
I am also planning on vacum sucking the carbon fiber to make it stronger and lighter. Few aftermarket cosmetic products are made this way but all racing cf parts are vacum sucked.
There is a company making cf sunroofs aerospeed i think however people say that it is only one layer of carbon fiber and light can actually shine through the weave in some spots is this true?
Is there a big demand for all fiberglass sunroofs?
I am open to any ideas so shoot them my way.

Curious, but is it the whole sunroof, or is it just the top layer or something? Will I just take my old sunroof out and bolt yours right in? will it still be functional?
Im just curious to know becuase if its just a thin piece of carbon fiber that replaces the metal top portion of the sunroof, I wouldn't expect to pay much.

If it replaces the panel and remains fucntional i woudl definetely buy one,. These things rust too f*cking easy. As for the suggestions. i suggest you make it as cheap as possible while retainign function or noone will buy it.

Would having two black bolts visible from the outside of the car be annoying for you guys?
Would have the inside rail visible annoying?
I know the cleaner the look the better but it is worth paying a little more?
As for price im not sure. I want to make it as cheap as possible. I see glass ones and carbon fiber ones selling for over 300. Im hoping to be at about 225-250. But this is only a estimate

well i don't mind the bolts in the inside but the out side has to go... why not make a permant bolt in the carbon fiber and use a nut to hold to the moving track..(replace the screws for bolts and nuts ???

yeah I would be intrested in one if you can keep the cost under $150 and it can be painted (much like LizardFC, I could care less if it looked like carbon fiber, rather it should mount and replace the stock one exactly).

I think that it would be sweet to have a carbon fiber sunroof. If $150 was the price i would definately consider getting one. Also i agree that you should have the bolts on the inside and use a nut to screw it in. IMO it would look better.
Look forward to seeing the prototype
