^pretty much the only way to do the whole car^

unless you were goign to make these parts yourself you will have trouble finding carbon fiber on anything besides a hood, sunroof, and wing on these cars...

there are also techniques to painting a carbon fibre effect that I have experimented with on bodies of flames before as well....

wrong anyone that works with CF can do a over lay. I am not a real fan of overlays but it seems to be the in thing right now.

Mazdaspeed Motorsports has doors and fenders I think. You have to participate in real sanctioned races to be a member though.

i wouldnt mind seeing more CF and HyrbridFRP parts for our cars, but well all would and we're all penny-pinching FC owners, i know i could benefit from some lighter doors though.

I do hoods, sunroof panels, misc interior and exterior. I'm trying to do fenders and doorskins. I don't have anything right know cause I simply can't get any CF from any local suppliers.

Then I would suggest finding some place and pay them a commission to take the car, make molds and make you you're own one off set of CF body panels. I doubt you'll be able to get the rear quarter panels that go over the roof, made in CF though.

yeah, having to do the rear and top is going to take alot of CF, the best bet would be just to laminate the CF on to the actual body.

Laminating CF onto body panels would completely defeat to purpose of using carbon fiber. As it is using it for body parts isn't really the smart way to use the stuff either. Hybrids of aramid and carbon are the way to go. If you use body panels to make molds, your parts wont be the right size. Especially for bigger pieces.

On a side note Boeing just gave my school easily over 10k in dry carbon and prepreg they cant use anymore. Its sweet. I love being in College.

this car is said to be for advertising only, not running on a track. doing that would take about 1 million man hours not to mention how much CF. I don't know what molds you've been using, but the larger the piece, the more accurate it is. And using a part to make a mold is how it's done, unless you're ford motors and use a 10 ton piece of billet aluminum just to make a injection mold.

If its for advertising only then he should just use the vinyl CF look alike stuff.

And dont parts shrink based on a percentage? So like a 1 inch part will shrink .050 and a 10 inch part will shrink .5 inches? I am still learning about this stuff I am takin a composites class right now but its more focused on the aerospace side of the industry. And using a part to make a mold isn't the only way its down there are tons of diffierent ways to produce tooling. 10 Ton piece of aluminum for an injection mold? What plastic part does ford make that needs such a large mold? And what does injection molding have to do with this anyways? Are you thinking about using monolithic graphite for FRP molds?

I think you're thinking of silicone or plaster, anything waterbased will shrink as the water evaporates, resin however doesn't shrink as much. ford uses that just to make 1 front bumper injection mold, 1 for the rear and 2 17 ton blocks for each fender
