the car wouldnt idle at 3-4k from a vacuum leak, it would run like **** at low rpms.... did you take the fast idle cam off when you did the TB Mod? I had the same problem until took the fast idle cam off..

I gutted mt cats all three of them and what happened to mine was that the first broke up and blew in to the second and then the second or at least parts of it broke off and went in to the third and clogged it up so bad that the car had no power it barly pulled a hill in 1st gear and I had to shift a very high RPM's to get it to shift and not stall. But gutting the cats won't make them blow up and you will still have enough back pressure to open the 6 ports up. Just get a very long screw driver and beat the gutts out of them but when beating the crap out of the third cat there is a pipe running threw the middle of it I wouldn't suggest bending it.

OK. Now I'll give a real and useful answer instead of all this bullshit that has filled most of this thread.

Your cats are glowing red hot because you are running WAY rich. Search on "running rich" for possible causes.

Your high idle could be due to several things, but I would either assume it is a vacuum leak and/or the fact that after all your porting and emissions removal your idle will need to be adjusted. Don't fool with the idle adjustments until you have eliminated vacuum leaks as the possibility.

I was hoping someone with common sense would chime in.

Well the car starts up and goes to 4k rpms, then drops down slowly then all the sudden dies. The exhuast smells a little funny too.

Look!! You have modified your rotary, and a moded rotary won't just start right up and run like a charm. When my cat got red it happened when I changed the Carb on my car(Holley 650 with Jaytech intake...ooh yeah, its still turbo'd) my car was backfiring until I got the a/f mixture right and tuned the carb. Then I just gutted the cat (one because I had a high flow cat).
when you gut it or them just take the whole thing off and wet the whole insides with a hose, this wets the dust and prevents it from becoming air borne. I know this because I cut asbestos pipe in my job. Don't breath this dust in because most dust is not healthy for your lungs.

Ok I just took everything off again and checked all the hoses... they are all new so I dont think they would be leaking.

The parts I put on that were modified were off a parts car in my backyard.. So it make sure that wasnt the problem I put the stock parts back on and now the rpms arent all high, but the car wont idle... When I let it go down to idle it just dies.

I think its probably an intake leak in the lower manifold where it connects to the engine block. That is the only gasket that I did not replace when I did all of this. When I start up my car it smells kind of like exhuast by that part of the engine. I think tomarrow ill stop by atkins(down the street) and pick up a gasket. Ill see what happends with that.

I took off the cats and the first pre-cat broke into pieces and clogged up the rest of the cats. There were big pieces just stuck inside the other cats. After i gutted all of them and I took the car for a spin, dam all I can say is damn... It pulls so hard i cant believe it. Tomorrow ill be blocking off the ACV and air pump.
