Car's been flooded for awile; Some questions

Alright - so my cars been flooded since like I don't know, december 4th. I got it to start sometime in december but i didn't keep it onlong because the smoke WASNT stopping, was going on for about 2 mins till I couldnt see my house. I tryed to start it a week later, it started up - shook ALOT and died. heh

So I've been trying everything recently, charging the batt really good, removing the EGI and cranking for 20 sec or so, then putting it in and cranking agian.

What happens is once and awile it will start the battary gauge will start to go up and the rpm goes to maybe 900 then it dies again. Smells horrid of gas. Flooding?

So I'm thinking maybe the plugs are pretty fouled up. Possible? I'm going to get the tool tomaro to remove them but my grandma wants me to change her plugs - she offered to buy me some plugs I don't want to take the offer unless these ones are most likely bad.

Also any other tips to get her to start? I'm going to try putting fluid into each hole like the guide says to create some compresson but I don't know what else and its really killing my batt.

Last tid bit of information, when Im cranking it over I hear pops from the exhaust/below the car just like really quiet backfire pops.....like it will be going and after it does its half start thing like I mentioned above I hear a few pop pop pop pop then its just the engine quietly spinning and it may happen again every so often.

Go change your grandmothers spark plugs anyway.

You should do a compression test, to see if your engine is blown. If the engine is super flooded then just pulling the fuse and cranking will not "deflood" it. If it is that loaded up you will need to pull the plugs, the EGI fuse, and crank the car over to get the excess fuel out. Then install fresh (non-soaked) plugs and try starting. While you are cranking it over listen for "woooshes" if either rotor does not have any then it is time for a rebuild.

Oh yeah I'll replace them both ways, Im just going to be at the place to get them. I don't have the tool to check its compresson I doubt the local autostore will have it?....

Check for the wooshes when the sparkplugs are in or out?

Also how could I tell if the plugs are bad by looking at them - if they are bad/i buy some anyways what are some not cheap but good ones to get? Right now they're NGK

Thx

A regular piston compression gauge works fine for this purpose.

When the plugs are out have someone crank it and listen for the "wooshes". Or only take the leading plugs out and put your finger over the plug hole. Crank it over. Your finger should lift off three even times per revolution.

mine was BADLY flooded not to long ago...heres what id did.....
pulled out plugs and EGI fuse...rolled car with gas pedal WIDE open till the mist (fuel) stops coming out of spark plug holes....put some ATF in the spark plug holes and cranked it some more....put NEW plugs in and it fired right up!

There are no "cheap" plugs, you have to run the NGK's, you will know why when you have one removed. They do not look like any other plug out there.
