I've also heard that CF hood will retain shape so they can come flying through the windhsield instead of warping like a metal hood.
Is this also true?

I've heard CF hoods can warp under extended periods under the sun. Maybe thats just the cheap stuff.

I have had two bikes made from CF and they are very very strong. Carbon Fiber is a great thing!

If it wasn't strong, Ferrari wouldn't make the chassis and body of the Enzo out of carbon fiber.

I have never seen CF do that.. I think it either may have alum. in it or the metal bars on the side if it has any.. Any CF that i have ever seen shreads very very easily.. Basically it just frays and looks just like Fiberglass if you poke a hole in it. IDK if the hood is all CF but it is very hard for me to believe that the hood held that weight and bent that way if being solid CF.

.. CF is 8x stronger then steel for a given mass, it's also 15 to 35% more flexable ( flexability varies between brands/types of epoxy) then fiberglass in a polyester resin. Thier are different types of CF, some are a high strength and some are high modulous weaves also make a difference in it's charcteristics when in a matrix as well as how it was made. idealy a 50% mix of CF and resin will be the strongest and lightest.. to get that glossy look with epoxy it requires that a higher percent of epoxy be used thereby reducing the strength or the part.. vacuume baging a part will make it the strongest and post curing will increase it's temp durability.

i think the reason for that is weight savings more than anything.

carbon fiber is very strong for its weight compared to steel that may be strong but is very heavy.

Well ya of course, its all about saving weight, but it has to pass crash tests too... so clearly its plenty strong.
