Carbon Fiber Hoods

Recently I came across the idea of purchasing a carbon fiber hood for my '87 TurboII. I contacted a company and they said that they would make carbon fiber hoods for me if I purchase in amounts of 5 or larger. At 5 or 6 units, the price will be $450. The more the better. If anyone is interested, please post a reply.

Be wary. You get what you pay for when it comes to carbon fiber hoods. I make them myself and I can tell you there is no way anyone can make a profit off of a cf hood selling for $450, unless they cut corners somewhere. Im sure you will hear a lot of horror stories about cf hoods that were cheaply made. I only use aircfaft grade materials from an aircraft supply catalogue, and my materials alone cost over $400. I will be selling cf hoods soon over this forum. I am going to make the mold next week and then make a fiberglass hood for my car. After I post pics of that, I will start accepting down payments for my hoods.

Well, my friend, who owns a 3000gt, did a bulk buy from the same company and it turned out to be a very good investment. He hasn't had any problems with it and the company is very good in overall. Are you going to be making a mold for 2nd Generation TurboII's? If you would like a base mold, I have one created that I was going to use for the bulk buy. How much are you thinking of making the final cost? I would be very interested in purchasing from you in that case. Thanks.

David88vert has a link to a guy that sold some horrible cf hoods for the supra. There are pics and the hoods didnt fit right and the finish was aweful. I will see if I can get him to post that link.

The price(and timeframe for when I make it) will depend on the style. I will post tomorrow with what all I am going to be doing, along with prices and such. I make sure what I make is perfect before I sell it.

Yes, there is defintely a difference between the quality of "race" and "show" composite parts. Be sure to ask about anything you are buying, as the fit, finish, and mounting methods vary greatly.

Since there's lots of interest for these products...

Hey mazdaspeed7, what kinda set-up are you making these things? Specifically, are you using E-glass? S-glass? Epoxy? Are these gonna be vacuum bagged?

I use epoxy and carbon fiber on the top with kevlar on the bottom. If I need it to be stronger I will add some extra cf/kevlar or s-glass. They will not be vacuum bagged. I am making the first hood out of s-glass for my car. I will have pics of that hood up before I start taking orders on the hood in cf/kevlar or s-glass.

Here is the link to the guy that was making really bad supra hoods. None of them fit right and the finish was horrible.

I'm interested, but what will the hood look like? Will it look like a stock N/A hood, a T2 hood, or will it be custom. I don't want a stock looking CF hood. I want one with louvers and some other things as well. I'm very picky when it comes to the exterior of my car. There is a place here in St. Pete that will make one for me if I provide a hood to use to make a mold. They say they can do anything I want long as they have a stock hood for a mold They will charge 1500 for one hood 2300 for two. The price gets better the more I have made. Right now I'm looking for a better deal. Unless this is the best I can come up with. The name of the place here is Xtra_speed.com Also known as Race Related. The Xtra_speed.com is not a web site yet as they are still in their beginning stages of business. Please email me with your info on your connection. adzam_7_xr@yahoo.com Then again I guess you can post it here. I forgot you guys got it like that. Forgive me I'm still new to the whole forum thing.

Yo,

Does anyone here that wants a carbon hood live near:

37925 N. 6th St East. Suite 411
Palmdale, CA 93550

This is the address of Fiber Images, IMHO one of the best carbon hood manufacturers out there. I've seen their product and it kicks ***. We need someone to drop off a hood there so they can make a mold and we can get rolling.
