Car wouldn't start but does now and seems fine.

A few days ago my car decided it wasn't gonna start, I never did a compression check but a few people said it sounded like it didn't have any compression when I would try to start it. So I figured the engine was done and needed a rebuild. But then a few days after that I was able to pop start it and it seemed fine. Now I'm thinkin it was just flooded, but I was also thinking it might be the started because sometimes before that the started would just click once and do nothing and I would turn the key again and it would start fine. This happened to me twice before. And another time when I was tryin to jump start my car, the starter would just click and not start the car. Everything seems fine now with the car but I'm still unsure if it I should drive the car. Oh another reason why I think it may have just been flooded was because the night before it wouldn't start I started the car and then turned it off before it could properly warm up. I guess what I wanna know is was it flooded or was it my starter.

When it the motor didn't turn over and just went click once, it was most likely a weak battery, although the starter is also not out of the realm of possibility.

But your most recent event sounds like you flooded it, never shut the car off cold in the winter.

Yea, the battery thing would make sense because whenever the starter would do that, it was before I put a new battery in and it hasn't done that since. Also I was hoping flooded was just the case. I thought it was flooded too because when it started you could smell a lot of gas. Yea and when I shut it off before it could warm I was thinking, oh crap shouldn't have done that.

next time you shut it off cold, just pull the EGI fuse right away and crank it over for 20 seconds to clear, put fuse back in, and run it till she is warm

I had one of those "Oh crap" moments a couple weeks ago

Yea I tried the EGI fuse trick but I guess I didn't crank it long enough.

I've had to do it for over a minute once or twice.
Just don't crank on it for the full minute, just 5-10 second bursts.
Usually I hear the exhaust sound change and then I put the fuse back in.
