Car won't start after AVC removal?!?!
got an '88 turbo Convertible.
I made up some block off plates today.
removed the ACV, Split-Pipe, and then the BAC.
(turbo coolant stud snapped when i gave it a quick tighten as it was loose last time. a fun interlude getting the broken stud out and fixing that problem, but i digress)
Got it all back together, and the car wouldn't start. Nothing but a sick whirring sound from the centre console area (the bit with the clock, and warning lights in it, forgot what it's called).
i did leave the battery attached while i was pulling everything apart, so i could listen to the stereo. It eventually went flat perhaps i shorted something out by leaving the battery attached?
all the fuses under the dash are good. (the one controlling that annoying beeping sound when you leave the door open was blown, but a new 10amp fuse fixed that. probably not even relevant).
the fuses in the box in the engine bay are all OK too.
So, I put the BAC back on (thinking it had something to do with the BAC's harness just hanging there now, and that it might need to be plugged in to complete a circuit) still nothing but the same sick whirring.
It still doesn't turn over. when I turn the key there's still a sharp "click" then the sick whirring.
Is it possible I've killed a relay, or something similar?
Any advice appreciated at this point, I am at a complete loss as to what is wrong!

hmm, battery is not low? with my limited amount of knowledge regarding this matter, i advice to make sure the battery is not low and make sure your battery cables are connecting probably and are clean. If this does not solve your problem, then you are gonna have to wait for someone else to reply :-p.

The whirring you are referring to....is this the gear in the starter spinning and not making contact with the flywheel?? Sounds like the starter solenoid may be bad. Jack the car up and give the starter a few good whacks with a hammer, it may have some good spins in it left. If that works, I'd head to the dealer and order a new starter.

Mmm. get it working? I was going to say that the click was the starter engaging and whirling was the starter spinning but not touching the flywheel. just my two cents. I've seen it happen when my buddy installed the wrong starter on his camaro. Wooo... thats some sick sounding whirling noise. Like a gas tourbine trying to take off in your garage.
You dontknow how much tourqe a starter has until you spin it full power with nothing resisting it.
Anyhows, I know how inanimate mechanical devices can be a pita. I'm going to college for mech and eletrical engineering, trust me, there are so many stupid algarithms in physics that can effect what happens.
Coincidentaly I killed my starter on the last tranny change because i dropped it 6 inches onto the concrete shop floor. So I dunno. Goodluck man, hang in there. Man ALWAYS triumphs if he sticks to it.
