Question Car won't start

I'm pretty darn sure that it is not flooded, it is turning over but sounds like no compression, I did a couple of red lines the night before ( I like the bogging it does in wet weather getting out of 1st at 40). Anyway, need some help here. It sounds like it is just whinding up, and nothing.

sounds like that can do some damage to the car, oxygen sensors and cats, water do the same, just not as affective? I am also wondering if it is even compression.

I dunno, I highly doubt it will harm your O2 sensor or your cats unless you do it all the time..

For low compression? Umm...aside from the ATF treatment, probably a rebuild....

SHoot...could be anything. Have you checked the usual suspects? Fuel? Spark? There is a way to jumper the fuel pump to get it to run without the signal from the AFM. You said it ran last night, and then didtn start this morning? If you shut it off warm, it probably shouldnt have flooded. Might have happened anyways. My 87 does it at wierd intervals.

do this first

Before you do the AFT, take out the EGI fuse first. It is in the engine bay left side top fuse. Then turn the car ove rwith the gas pedal floored for about 15 sec. put the fuse back in and start it but mash the gas. It might smoke for a few butit will go away. The Atf trick is good if you are loseing power and want to try to regain it.

oh yeah and from what i have heard, get a new set of plugs for after you do the aft trick because it will foul the plugs good and the cat will be affected to but down the road some.

I am about to do the atf trick, when I pulled the plugs, they were soaked, is this the right thing to do still? And to my understanding i pull the egi fuse out as well, do I only leave the trailing coils attachted or do I pull those as well?

I'm a bit confused one site says to remove only the leading plugs with the coils, yet the rx7.com atf says to remove all plugs and oesn't mention the coils

I pulled ALL the plugs when I did it...If your plugs are coming out soaked, you have gas (obviously)...So you are either flooded, or have no spark. Before you go dumping ATF into your motor, try the simple unflooding procedure.

1. Disable the fuel pump... There are about a hundred different ways to do this...Me? I used the connector on the left rear pillar. You can use the "ENG INJ" or "ENG EGI" but the latter one also disables your spark. You can pull the relay on the left hand side of the dash OR you could put a switch in like I did. Vise grips on the fuel line work too...Get creative!! pull the pump out!! You dont need it!! JK.....

2. Pull the plugs (ALL OF THEM)..

3. Floor your motor and crank for like 15-20 secs. If you are flooded, your buddy (if you have one available) will see white stuff coming out of the plug holes..This is normal.

4. Let the car sit for a while, have a smoke and a beer....Or whatever.

5. Crank it again for 15-20 secs.....

6. Put NEW plugs in, and re-enable the fuel pump. Then try to start WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL!!!

If this doesnt work after a few tries, you may have to resort to the ATF procedure..
