i had replaced numerous amounts of parts on my 87 fc, when i turn the key, the engine just turns but will not start or even attempt to, and i noticed that my rpm gauge just recently stopped. usually, when i turn the key, the needle will bounce. what is the problem? also i notice that there is a bad fuel odor in my oil. could the problem be electrical? i checked all of the fuses in the car and under the hood. of is something just not connected? please help me out as much as possible, give me some ideas to look at....Thanks

keep in mind, for the engine to start/run, you need 3 things:
Fuel
Ignition
Compression
You are obviously missing one, so check all starting with spark since you can smell the fuel.

Your not getting spark anymore since the tach quit doing that tiny bounce when you used to try to start the engine.
The ENGINE fuse feeds the Main Relay which in turn feeds the ECu, coils and injectors. Check the ENGINE fuse inside the car and the two EGI fuse in the engine bay.
And, yes, it probably is flooded to the hilt.

Make yourself a fuel cut switch. How? Do a search on this forum. Put in Fuel Cut Switch and if an advanced search, put in the name NZCONVERTIBLE for a name. He has in past post attached a jpg of the relay plug and which wires to cut, type switch etc.
There's other methods but you might just do the Fuel Cut Switch. OR, buy new rotor housings/apex seals, and rebuild the engine.

Now for real information:: There's a good write up of unflooding along with putting in a fuel cut off switch here:
