Car still wont start HELP!
ok starter is fine, battery is fine. Car still wont start? Will the car start without all the grounds hooked up in the interior? When i tried to start it this time the car smoked like something electrical was burning? It came from right around the starter and the negative battery cable shot out of the terminal WTF is going on? Any help would be great thanks, kevin.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
There's a clip that goes to the top of the starter, probably has a black connector.
There's also a large wire, I believe black with a yellow stripe that you bolt on.

Oh, and a ground that goes between the starter and tranny. Or starter and engine block (on the big long bolt), not sure if it makes a difference.

You had something wired wrong and shorted something in the starter circuit, sounds like. That's a LOT of juice to be shorting, too...The ground cable terminal from the battery should go under the long bolt's head or nut, either at the starter end, or the rear housing end, your choice...The large cable from the positive batt circuit should go the the large lug on the starter solenoid, at the top of the starter. The other "little" wire from the starter itself should go to the smaller lug beside the big one...If you got juice to flow down there at the starter, and it sounds like you did, lol, then you've got enough hooked up in the car's interior to do the job...Now I think your problem is gonna be figuring out what exactly you fried during your "smoke check" escapade...

my starter is good i had it checked at a shop and also at a parts store. What ground are you talking about i dont have one there. Also my bolt is not very long at all it doesnt go much farther than about 3 inches in (lol that sounds gay) anyway wtf is going on. That ground you speak of is non existent on my car? I also dont know if this matters but i believe the timing is off but the car wont even turn over?

Omg I'm an idiot, I had the starter completely wired wrong. i had the negative cable and the postive cable hooked up to the solenoid so ofcorse it was frying the starter. thanks for all your help and patience with my dumbass!

The whole harness on the top of the engine is part of the fuel injection harness,so if you have a short to ground the engine will not start,I had this problem.
1) check all the fuses under the hood
2)then disconect the negative side of battery and with a test lamp between the battery and the cable,if the light comes on, then you have a short.
3)If you still have the AC pump on the car and the power sterring pump is still on,there is a electrical conection and wire that runs under the pump.Make sure that this wire has not shorted out or pinched between pump and the ac

well i got the car to turn over but now it wont start. It just cranks. How would i rectify this problem? Checked for spark, its good. Checked all the fuses also but none are blown. Any help guys? Ive heard that it could possibly be flooded? Also there is a little bit of smoke coming from the mufflers and also a little bit of smoke coming from the header? I think thats just because its not bolted on tightly though. Any help, Wayne im talking to you lol laterz, kevin.

I thought you fixed the wiring and she was good?
Pull a couple of plugs, see if they're wet, then you'll know for sure whether you're flooded or not...Do you smell gas in the exhaust after cranking?
Freakin' bolt the header on, man, or you won't be able to hear your grandchildren, lol...

I think its flooded every time you turn the ignition key it injects fuel (to my understanding).
pull the plugs and clean them up then pull the fuel (efi i believe) fuse in the engine bay aft of the battery crank it for alittle bit to blow the fuel out. reinstall the plugs and crank it again with the fuse out for alittle bit. if you have a very good battery (hi cranking amp) start the car with the fuse installed. if the battery is not strong borrow another battery,
good luck

What up kev, its mike. To elaborate on the starting problem: the engine isn't really "cranking", when we try to start it the starter just whines and the fan spins, but there is no combustion. There is spark but the engine isn't trying to start. Any ideas?

The only way I could figure if it was timing would be if it would be firing early~ or late. When it cranks does it backfire or predetinate? You said the engine cranks so it isn't firing at the point where it would creat pressure to lockup (if its possible) I say its flooded, mine does it all the time and it is a bitch! Good luck!

Yep, sounds like you're flooded- bad, lol...
S4? Pull the plugs, dry them off, pull the EGI fuse, crank her for a while to get as much fuel out as you can (pedal to the floor), inject some oil through the leading plugs holes, turn the engine over by hand (to disperse the oil), reinstall the plugs, mash the pedal to the floor, and crank her till she starts, observing starter duty cycles...May have to do this a couple of times...
What is it with everybody flooding now?

Shutting the car down before she warms up and drops to the 750 idle is the main cause, I think. Some kind of software error in the ECU, from what I've heard.
Low compression is a secondary reason...
Then you got the guys who want to use monster injectors for the primaries, lol...
