Car paralyzed by cold weather
Ok everytime I park outside for a handful of hours, my car takes about a minute of cranking to even start, then it wont idle and runs like ****. As in it has like no power and backfires crazylike. Outside air roughly 40-50 degrees F. Once its warmed up its fine.
Does anybody have any idea or explanation why my car is doing this? And how to fix it if possible?
Please help, I hate it!

First thing that comes to mind is that it runs very rich when cold. Mine does this too. It misses and runs pretty roughly right at start-up when cold. After a couple minutes it smoothes out but if it doesn't catch after a few cranks or the first time it starts to fire, I have to use the fuel cut switch on it.

That probably explains why my ported TB works better on cold starting than the stock one. I cant wait to get my SAFC II, hopefully I can remedy this problem with that.

My car started perfect with the turn of the key when it was freezing cold. Haha I used to get yelled at by the neighbors after i come home from school because they said I woke them up from my 3k warm up. Ahh I truely do miss the life of a Rotary.
Yea maybe you have leaky injectors like mines before so just hit the switch at the end of the day and it should start up fine in the morning.

That should eliminate leaky injectors because all the fuel in the system would be consumed, leaving 0 relative pressure . . theoretically.
How is your airflow meter installed? Horizontally like stock or vertically? If your car always runs rich you can install the meter with the flapper facing up to slightly lean out the fuel mixture. I've been 'tuning' my car lately by changing this angle of the airflow meter. My best 'fuel curve' is with the meter facing 20ish degrees downward, but with the idle mixture screw full lean for a slightly richer midrange than stock.

Ha I love your ideas 88ILS, mine is mounted in stock position now. I turn my car off, then flip the switch. Ill try flipping the switch to kill the car, and see if that works better.

My car also smokes more than normal when cold as well, could be extra fuel thats been building up?

Mine does the smoking at startup, but I tried not running premix for a few gallons and the smoking stopped. I went back to premix and it went back to its routine of letting out a nice puff right when it kicks over. I use a ratio in the neighborhood of 200:1 with no OMP.

make sure its not just too cold to run your poor car. I made the mistake of trying to drive it in -15 F weather. To make a long story short, the coolant was frozen (my mistake for not having enough actaul COOLANT) and my engine started to overheat within 5 minutes. I stopped it and opened up the radiotor cap and got doused with lukewarm coolant. luckily. Ha! that was a crazy morning.
