Hey NZConvertible, did you ever watch the old Bathurst 1000 races in Aus, with the GT-R's. Man, did they cream anything and everything... and each year they would make them add weight to the car, and limit their boost, and each year they would still cream those sad V8s... hehehe. The race organisers finally got sick of them and banned them.

Hell yeah, they rocked! They came over here once and were amazing to watch and hear. Typical braindead Aussie sport organisers ban anything that challenges their precious dinosaur V8's, like the rotary for example! Not that I'm bitter...

Why do Aussies love their V8's?

Since they look like souped up coffins, they can live, sleep and DIE in them...

Before you go off on a pointless tangent about modified cars, I'm comparing stock for stock. The Skyline in your example got beaten because the owner spent more money on it, not because a Civic is better than a Skyline.
You are right that the Skyline was modified, I failed to mention that the Civic was too. However the measure of a superior car is how it responds to modification. Most cars in the same class run about the same 1/4mile and so on.

You're talking about a car that is basically a whole generation newer. The engine has more power and torque, it's electronics are far better, it's suspension design is superior, it's got bigger brakes, etc. I didn't mean it's a million times better than an FC, but most aspects of its design are incrementally better. And yes I've spent plenty of time behind the wheel of one, so I can compare.
Actually the R32 is made the same years as a FC. My car was made in 91. The R33 came out in 93-94. The RB20 in a skyline makes Stock 210-215HP this is the same as a Kouki FC as far as tourqe the RB20 is weak in comarison to other piston engines and the rotary has never been known to make large amounts of tourqe.

The brakes are slightly larger on the R32 and are used on many cars as brake upgrades.

I'd much rather have an FC than a GTSt, but I'm not blinded by my affection for the RX-7 to ignore basic engineering facts. Also the whole "sports sedan" vs. "sports car" debate is silly. What's the difference? Number of doors? The shape? It's all just marketing BS.
BTW, I forgot to mention in my first post, if it were my choice I'd get the FC!
NZ Convertible Im not completely disagreeing with you, I am just not a fan of Nissans craftsmanship. The Skylines are good cars they drive nice and look good, Hell I LOVE the sound of a RB engine but when It comes to racing I feel the FC is superior.

Build date doesn't matter, only when it was designed. And even though there's only 3 years between there introduction dates (FC in 1986, R32 in 1989), the R32 is basically one generation ahead of the FC in terms of design.

Only if it's a rare Infini. The S4 made 133kW, the S5 146kW and the R32 GTSt 160kW.

Like I said, I much prefer the FC, that's why I bought one when I could have had the GTSt. But facts is facts.
